Just a quick remark – using https://koldfront.dk/git/illuminant/ (without "www") doesn't work for me, https://www.koldfront.dk/git/illuminant/ does, however.

Most events advertised by media and government are fiction. What you see on the Internet and TV is not real. What experts, foundations, agencies, governments, and nonprofits say is never the truth. None of it is real. It is all agitprop. It is all agenda-driven manipulation. None of it has ever been real. There is always an angle or agenda behind the way the information is presented. Those images and sounds and slogans and speeches are NOT reality. It is a false reality offered for you to buy into.
Reality is between you and your neighbor. How you treat your neighbor ... whether or not you treat your neighbor as equal in dignity and rights ... or whether or not you use your fears of government stories as an excuse to hate and abuse your neighbor ... which is why they give you their stories in the first place. By stoking division they can rule you, fleece you, control you, and profit from you.
In the Game of Thrones the Tyrion character was used to tell us who rules:
"What unites people? Armies? Gold? Flags? No. It’s stories. There's nothing in the world more powerful than a good story. Nothing can stop it. No enemy can defeat it. And who has a better story than Bran the Broken? The boy who fell from a high tower and lived… He's our memory. The keeper of all our stories. The wars, weddings, births, massacres, famines, our triumphs, our defeats, our past. Who better to lead us into the future?"
When you believe someone's stories, that person rules over you. The person who crafts the stories that you take for reality has control of your mind and your life. Whoever crafts your reality is your master. They keep ramping up the anxiety to stunt critical thinking and invoke emotional responses and emotional investment in narratives crafted to steer people into doing their bidding.
Okay, so about Microsoft's latest #quantumcomputing announcement. I'm going to link you to Scott Aaronson's blog for a nice FAQ, but I think this bit is the tl;dr: "*If* Microsoft’s claim stands, then topological qubits have finally reached some sort of parity with where more traditional qubits were 20-30 years ago.[...] Topological qubits can win if, and only if, they turn out to be so much more reliable that they leapfrog the earlier approaches [...]"

@octade ... That's a joke, right?
This former post elaborates on how the advertising cycle mentally enslaves people to pseudoscience and political agitprop:
The Wind and the Lion | Full Movie with Sean Connery
https://youtu.be/D-In3mEfBxg
This movie was filmed before the normalization of brainless Hollywood portrayals of all foreigners as mindless drones. It showed an era of mutual respect and honor codes between adversaries instead of jingoistic 'light of the world' self-worship.
No spoilers. It is too good for that.

I think Fedi feels very grounded and realistic. There aren't as many emo depressed aesthetic posts as there are genuine mental health posts and people who support each other for it. Truly, it is a safe space.
I mean I'm not making fun of emo depressed aesthetics (honestly, they're cool sometimes as long as they don't make suicide jokes — and thus I'm guilty of making them too) but the genuine mh posts do feel more real and comforting somehow, than memes that almost romanticise depression.
@octade@soc.octade.net fair enough, but in some ways this interconnectedness can make you feel less lonely in ways I love computers, for example. I find it sad (okay, not depressing) how I can't really enthuse about it with anyone else besides one-sided yapping irl. Same with linguistics. On the internet, I can bounce ideas with like-minded people, and even those who know more than me.
@octade@soc.octade.net Oh yes, the news cycle is in fact depressing. I try to avoid news whenever I'm online.

Hello dear academic community, I am looking for research, novels, non-fiction, media reports, etc. on "living underground", as in resistance, hiding in repressive regimes, etc. Any material and any region.
Maybe more people are interested in this topic...
@socialscience @histodons @academicchatter
@sonjdol @socialscience @histodons @academicchatter The works of Milan Kundera paint a picture of Czech life.
Matthew Collin wrote both "This Is Serbia Calling: Rock 'N' Roll Radio and Belgrade's Underground Resistance" (2001) and "Guerrilla Radio: Rock 'N' Roll Radio and Serbia's Underground Resistance" (2002) about B92.
I would ask the Christians in Gaza how they have been surviving for 70 years. There are a few Palestinian Christians who now live in the USA. They would be good first-hand sources of information.
@sonjdol @socialscience @histodons @academicchatter We at VU Amsterdam and Protestantse Theologische Universiteit Utrecht are making a volume on religious minorities. Editor will be Bernhard Reitsma.
Very interesting stuff, very various solutions how to be a minority.
@sonjdol @socialscience @histodons @academicchatter Did anyone mention "Walkaway" by @pluralistic? I would say it qualifies.
@octade
Where does one find them?
Or DexMedia might also ship them to your region if you have a land line.
In my area they mail them to certain neighborhoods where the geriatric boomer brigades and the hippy generation are known to still reside. The last place I lived 4 years ago they still delivered them every year. In my new place they don't deliver to my neighborhood. For everyone else you need to order them, and they are only available for certain areas.
I surmise that the print phone books will never be completely extinct. They are critical infrastructure if the data grid goes down in some disaster. There are still millions of active copper phone lines across the country, and the way they were buried, it should be another two generations before all that copper corrodes. I have lines that are 50 years old and still in good condition. It is just sitting there, waiting in case it is ever needed.

I don’t know anyone who thinks #ElonMusk preaches #Christian values. He has some opinions that align, but I’ve never heard him claim to be a Christian or anything like that. https://x.com/KINGV0NBURNER/status/1890753922412744894
I admired #ElonMusk before certain political circles thought it was cool (and when others decided it wasn’t). Why? His entrepreneurial genius at #Tesla, #SpaceX, #boringcompany, etc. Same with #SteveJobs — they are Edisons or Galileos of our time. I don’t have to agree with someone 💯 to appreciate gifts. I wish Jobs had been a Christian, I pray Musk would become one — but I can see someone I don’t think is the epitome of morality and still appreciate creative genius.
@trbutler What's it like to be deeply evil?
@Gustodon Not sure what to make of this odd question.
@trbutler "I wish Jobs had been a Christian."
This among other statements suggests that you're comfortable with the destructive effects of your atavistic faith and the distinct ties Musk has to the rise of a fascist theocracy.
@Gustodon I'm afraid you're the one making sweeping, stereotyping assumptions, while I was making a nuanced distinction. I mused after someone wrongly tried to suggest Musk was some sort of figure Christians look up to for his morals. I never have and MANY of us never have. (Yes some do and that's problematic.) I personally don't think there is going to be a fascist theocracy and think people are doing a disservice to victims of actual fascism by saying there is going to be, but I also have vocally called out when any administration misappropriates bits of Christianity for power. I've done that repeatedly, including with Trump.
@trbutler Your faith is the framework that made American conservatism possible. That alone is unforgivable.
@Gustodon It also made American and European liberalism possible -- and clasicall liberalism/libertarianism possible, too -- historically speaking. And the present administration isn't even conservative. If it makes you feel better, though, just to shout and accuse incorrectly, I'm glad I could make your day better. Not even saying that sarcastically.
@trbutler Conservatism isn’t explicitly Christian, but somehow been equated politically. Anything that’s lacks Jesus Christ isn’t Christian.
@jordonr Amen, brother. I most definitely agree.
Amen. And anything giving us a fake Jesus is also not Christian. Some sects are devoted to their own Jesus 2.0 version.
Every bit of attention you give him, positive or negative, only helps him continue his shenanigans and get paid to boot.
@octade Not sure what you mean.
Musk worships a Spinozan deity in line with that taught by Christian occultists, Platonists, Hermetecists, Dualists, Deists, and other "Christian" blasphemers who have infiltrated the Church and many other institutions with their occult ideas. Think:
nomina sacra
word of power
manifesting your reality
key of knowledge
brotherhood of man
kabbalah
freemasonry
prosperity gospel
etc., etc.

@octade Tears in your coffee or tea? LOL
@cliffwade I buy single origin dark roast beans. Black is the best way to enjoy them.
@cliffwade Masala tea with milk and of course sugar, and Ouma rusks for dipping. Bit of an indulgence, I don’t do that every day.
@cliffwade You missed out coffee with milk
@annehargreaves You would choose "creamer" in this case.
@cliffwade coffee is a variety. Sometimes black, sometimes milk, although I do regularly make lattes and other espresso drinks.
Tea it's usually just the tea itself, green tea though I do like to add honey.
@cliffwade I don't drink coffee or tea. They taste bad.
Sometimes looking at the current happenings, the thought crosses my mind "I wish I could go back in time and ask Jesus and/or the apostles for advice in person".
Then I catch myself and remember that my faith is based on Jesus being resurrected and being present NOW through the Holy Spirit, I shouldn't need to go back in time to ask and receive advice from Him.
Fun fact: if your email address has a + sign in, you're going to have a very bad time with Chase bank.
One of my accounts has an old email address with a + sign in. I get an email (to my new address) once a month saying my email address is incorrect. Yes, ironic.
Only ~25% of their staff can even _find_ that email address on my account. None can remove it as the removal form says it's an invalid email address format. I've spent 3 years trying to fix this with them.
@matt do you have an equivalent to the financial ombudsman?
@TheDragon not that I think would have any teeth in a situation like this 😔

#Bible #Thought of the day: When #Christians discuss “divine inspiration” we tend to not really consider “genre.” Like, saying Job is a work of fiction will upset a number of biblical literalists. But this assumes that God can’t “breathe” through a work of fiction?
The book of #Revelation is likely to be a kind of ancient drama, written in symbolic poetic prose. It’s not a step-by-step guide for the future. To deny its genre is to risk denying God the full breadth of His inspirational work.
@FrChazzz
As if who created the whole universe would have creativity problems.
The same with Abraham. There was a man named Abraham who married a woman named Sarah. But the story of Abraham as written in the Bible is not about that ancient Abraham. It is taking the ancient Abraham and using him as a character to invoke an Abraham yet to come. It is about a FUTURE Abraham. Both Jesus and Paul say so ...
[Paul says] "But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an ALLEGORY: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar."
Take careful note how Paul says the story of Abraham is ALLEGORY of the followers of Christ, the New Abraham that Paul is helping Christ to create at that very time.
Hagar is Israel after the Flesh, under bondage to the Law of Mount Sinai. Sarah is the mother of the New Jerusalem, the Israel of all nations born after the Spirit. Thus Abraham was divided into two seeds, one earthly, and one spiritual, and the one would be at odds with the other, as foretold to Eve and the Serpent. So it is the spiritual seed of Abraham that enters the kingdom to come, and the fleshly seed that must be put to death:
"Ye must be born again!"
"Ye must be born of water and of spirit ..."
What flowed from the side of Jesus onto the earth? Water and blood.
"The life (spirit) of flesh is in the blood."
It has been in front of our faces all these centuries, but most have not seen because they did not heed the warnings about interpreting the scripture with vain fables and false histories:
"Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do."
"But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness."
"And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
"Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth."
"For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty."
"Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye."
(I have been drafting a homile set on this subject.)
