So is coming back, this time as !
Does anyone know anyone who can get me an invite code? I want in!
The App is coming back with no allowed, and will allow people to own their own content.

For the geeks: it's built on the protocol , and apparently they're experimenting with integrating the , future integration with , the protocol behind and .

User-sovereign social media where you hold the keys should also be considered to be part of free software in my opinion.
The only reason I don't use is because the community sucks.

Huh. So the vpn_key stays local and is used as the normal ActivityPub signing key that's used by every other implementation to verify posts?
          Sounds competitive with then.
          Pretty cool! 😎

If Nostr could implement the Privacy Groups feature of Hubzilla, I think it could be the Fediverse 2.0.... Or maybe 3.0 or whatever an upgrade would be.

NOSTR has problems with its cryptography implementation that allow forging. One attack allows re-directing a Bitcoin transaction. Too many cooks spoil the stew with the large pool of client and server applications.

There's one main thing I like about , , , and the in-development P2P-ified over and Matrix as they're generally deployed now: your ID doesn't depend on DNS.

I've not been in the Fediverse very long, but I've already seen people lose their entire social graph because an admin unilaterally took down an instance. When you tie your identity to DNS, you're at the mercy of the domain owner and every point of control over the DNS as a whole, including the court systems in every authoritarian jurisdiction. Not your keys, not your identity.

I like the admins of my instance here, but I see the toll it takes on them running it even with the community's contributions. It's a lot of pressure and a lot of power to have that much control over identity and trust for your users.

I don't think we have to wholesale move to other protocols, though. The beauty of open networks is the freedom to build bridges. When people do migrate between them, it can and should be as smooth as migrating between ActivityPub instances in the happy path, and remain fully interoperable.

Ok. I have been fooling around with Nostr the last few days and the potential there seems to be growing and growing. Don't get me wrong... I'm still a huge Fediverse fan, but they might be on to something over there at #Nostr.

I guess what I mean is how quickly it's getting built. Between your normal text and photo posts, it now has audio posts in YakBak. You can also play geocaching games thru treasure.to. Then add the fact that there is a payment system in place for content.

That's just touching the surface from what I can tell.

Yes, there are a lot of crypto bros there.... But I'm equally annoyed by many here in the Fediverse. Lol.
