Naval Ravikant is considered a philosopher and guru by the techbros. Masses of people in tech admire him. They even compiled his various tweets into a book named "The Almanack of Naval Ravikant". So whatever he says has weight.

Here he says he doesn't believe in pure (aka direct) democracy, meaning that people can vote for or against law proposals themselves (as they do, for example, in Switzerland) rather than electing representatives who then vote for or against laws for them (hopefully in their interests). It takes just one charismatic person, he implies, to inflame a significant mass of people and turn them into a mob that helps this one charismatic person have their preference become the majority's preference.

I've never heard that happening in Switzerland or other places of direct democracy, this "rule of the mob". But it sounds a lot like what Ravikant's friends Donald Trump were doing on Jan 6 with the storming of the Capitol, or Elon Musk with his acquisition of Twitter.

He then implies that a direct democracy like they have in Switzerland would eventually "collapse" into #communism (derogative) or "tyranny" by which I assume he means anarchism which he implies to mean the "law of the jungle", everyone against everyone, until some violent "butcher king" emerges.

I haven't heard that Switzerland is in "danger" of becoming a communist country.

Don't confuse communism with Stalinism. Communism simply means a society without a state. Neighbors take care of one another, rather than relying on the state for welfare. Everyone can get what they need without having to pay for it, simply by working whatever it is they learned. And if they already vote for their laws themselves, then why not also make it that the factories belong to everyone, rather than to single factory owners? Yet I don't see that to happen to Switzerland.

The Republic as in ancient Rome however means that a bunch of aristocrats (senators) effectively rule, and pick a king from their midst every few years. An oligarchy basically. Sounds like what we already have. He then espouses that takes a "rare genius", like Musk or even himself.

"Strong defenses for property rights" basically mean a police state. See Filton 4 or Ulm 5.
