I guess I'm probably the last human on earth to sign up for a Costco membership, but I did that today. And I had to have a whole fight with them about "no, I'm not installing an app." The woman working the registration desk was perfectly nice, but then simply would not budge. Eventually she asked "would you like to speak to my supervisor?" and I said yes. Then the supervisor said she needed to get the store manager. The manager glanced at the screen, shrugged, and said "It's fine." I don't know why they were putting up such a fuss over it.

All those leftists who preach inclusion and happiness for everyone (which, as we all know, is already something worrying because there is no one condition everyone can be happy in, except for one: if you are a dictatorship and you eliminate people who are not happy under your power — anyway). Many people especially in Europe now talk about degoogling, de-microsofting, de-appling, de-whatever-ing. Although I have no spare time for it, I read and keep reading those articles. And not a single of them, not an F'ing single one, mentions #Accessibility for the blind, chronically ill, for people with parkinson's, for all of us who do need accessibility. Inclusion is good, but only on paper and only for certain groups. Use various pronouns (even non-existent in the current language), don't pronounce this or that word, don't have a different opinion on some subjects, and first and foremost, don't forget to preach inclusion. For everyone. Yes, for everyone — except for at most 25% of people on this planet who *really* need accessibility, accomodations and particular treatment.
H is for hypocrisy there.
and no, you won't convince me that privacy-schmivacy or something else is more important then accessibility. Accessibility is *not* a luxury — it's how we live. A talking computer or a talking smartphone is the only way for us to communicate with such devices (there is Braille, I know, but it's not the point of this discussion). A website suited for keyboard and screen reader operation is the only website we *can* work with. Again: it's not about what we *want*, it's about what we *can*. So if your website is a million times private, sovereign, open-source and what not, but if it's not accessible — I *cannot* work with it, hence it's not for me. If your operating system has no screen reader or is not suited for keyboard and screen reader users — I *cannot* use it, hence it is not for me. And no, I won't go and fix everything, as most of the open-source community suggests. I have no time and no mental force to fix OS kernels and office suites. Of course, if you hire me on a contract as an accessibility specialist (or not me, anyone of us who is knowledgeable enough, I'm not jealous!) — then it's another thing.
That's that simple. And, as we are here, if Meta glasses can help me to read a sign or a menu in the restaurant — I'll strive to buy them, because I need this accomodation. I don't know why I have to repeat such things over and over and over, — I don't know why Lanie has to, why Elena @elettrona has to — but we repeat this and we will do it on and on and on, as much as they want us to shut the F up.
