[This is beyond cartoonishly evil:
- AI companies buy rare books from bookstores, because they're free from slop.
- Books get fed to the slopmachine, destroying the books in the process.
- AI companies don't publish digital books, potentially removing the book from society forever.
- Society gets more information that's only accessible via the slop extruding device.
Fuck everything about this, this is happening internationally, with millions of books.

starting to see 50+% #slop in new apps on #FDroid
and it's not "there's AI mentioned in the summary" but "the app doesn't do 50% of what it's trying to do"
Not a fault of @fdroidorg, It's probably worse on play store. But this is getting problematic fast.

Damn, I use Obsidian for quick notes at work and have been meaning to try out #logseq but from their recent commits on GitHub it looks like they've gone the way of the #slop.
Any suggestions from anyone for a simple markdown based note taking app?
I kinda liked the gui of obsidian sometimes but wouldn't mind also being able to just use neovim. There are a handful of Zettelkasten themed nvim plugins, and I've considered org mode too.

Let's get this straight: anything created with "AI" is #slop.
It doesn't have to be vibe-coded. It doesn't have to be horrible code. It doesn't matter that you've spent hours perfecting the prompt. It doesn't matter that ten people have spent a week reviewing it in detail.
As long as an "AI" took part in writing it, it's slop. It's an unethical technology, and anything created with it is tainted. It's an inhuman technology, and you're supporting it. You're being disrespectful to your users and contributors. You're putting your own convenience over humanity. You're aiding the worst murderous assholes in the history of humanity. And what's perhaps worst, you quite likely believe that you are making a net positive contribution, that you're helping people, while you're actually disrespecting and harming them.

And the next big blocker for #Python 3.15 in #Gentoo is time-machine. Which is obviously broken. There's a patch but it's #slop and complex, and it's sitting for 3 months already with no reply. Because obviously patching CPython internals is so much a better idea than freezegun ever were. All these time-based tests need all the ricing you can get; portability doesn't matter.
Congratulations. Now I'm actively worried to open a PR fixing my issue, because there's already been a few #slop PRs opened attempting to fix it. And I'm literally worried that mine would be taken as another slop PR…

I've seen where Torvalds said that he considers them as just another tool in the Arsenal, he doesn't really care, if the code is good.

These following words an extreme version of me would say
It looks like you will have to stop using Linux. Since from your perspective anything that uses remotely an LLM is bad, you will have to stop, otherwise you will contribute to the environment being destroyed willingly and actively
In practice that is impossible. If you drive a modern car it has the Linux kernel. If you have a smart TV or more you're also using the tainted kernel. Even if you have a stick which also streams or a camera you will have a Linux kernel in many cases.
These LLMs are an infection of the planet's code base
Since you're already using BSD a solution would be to cut using Linux on your computers drastically
Point me please, to projects which are heavily dependent on LLM code generation which are older than 10 years.

Computers used to be fun. I used to use Windows 9x, and it was unstable as hell, and you kept having to lean over backwards to get things to work. Then I used bleeding edge Linux, and at some point I've ended up running pure framebuffer tty for months because X11 was broken. But despite all the breakage (or maybe even because of it), it was fun. It was fun because random accidental breakage was the worst you could expect.
Nowadays, accidental breakage is rare. Things are relatively stable. However, every step of the way you have to watch out for bad actors. No, not criminals, they are rare. Evil corporations who are looking at every opportunity to fuck you up. Using computer is no longer fun, it's no longer a tool that helps you, and it's no longer your choice. You are forced to use it, and if you don't want to be hurt every step of the way, you have to spend all the effort on fighting back. And you're fucked up anyway, because even if you manage, your family and all the people around you won't care and will let their devices, their computers and their smartphones fuck you up.
I've started using FLOSS so many years ago, for the trivial reason that I didn't want to pay for software. I stayed because I enjoyed doing it. And I wanted to make a difference, I wanted to contribute positively to the world. Even if in a little way, but I wanted to be able to say that as much harm I've done to the planet, there's at least something positive to balance it out.
But nowadays I hate FLOSS. It's been overrun by the worst people in the world. The people who aren't happy with just fucking you up. They want everyone to keep fucking everyone up. It's the kind of horror where whatever you do, it turns out you're causing harm.
I don't trust my #Gentoo #packaging work anymore. So much of the software I touch turns out to be #slop. When I file a pull request, I'm worried it will trigger #LLM reviews. When I file a bug, I'm worried it will trigger LLM responses. And today, I've learned that my old bug report to a #NoAI project resulted in a dozen slop pull requests already. Whatever you do, #AI folks smile and tell you "see, you fucked up the world even more after all".
Honestly, I don't know what to do. I hate all of this so much. But even if I managed to figure out something else to do for a living, I can't escape computers. And if I stop doing them, if I stop fighting them, I will only end up being fucked up more.
