So I'm getting fed up with #spam on #Gentoo #Bugzilla.

A while ago we've introduced a timed block on new accounts posting URLs. It helped for a while. But now someone actually bothered implementing a dedicated tool, and we're getting a daily create-wait-post loop. I can't think of a really good way of getting rid of this.

So far I was thinking of:

• blocking new accounts based on the predictable e-mail pattern (they're just going to switch patterns, also may hit real users)
• limiting URLs pasted to an allowlist (this is going to suck hard)
• requiring manual request for every account via IRC (this is going to be pain for us, for users, and a lot of people just won't bother)

It really feels like whatever we do, it's going just to cause pain to us, to our legitimate users, and the spammers will just slop their way around it.

And on top of that, every comment posted is fucking #slop. Totally meaningless sentences added to random bugs, in the hope that we're too stupid to see that they've just spammed us.

I hate this timeline. Can we do Butlerian Jihad now, please?

Looks like #AI #slop to me, but not sure. Like the prompt was "expose yourself to art" or similar.

The fingers in the painting look off to me, spindly and elongated. The back and hair of the woman have a shine I've seen in many AI images, and the shadow and fabric hang look "off"

The post said "Say we'd take the suggestions seriously to shoot all nuclear waste into the Sun." And that comment was what I was responding to.

The YouTube video has the #AI #slop looking title screenshot that makes me immediately discount the content.

Might I miss something, sure? But experience has shown its not worth my time.

Guessing here, but looks like #AI #slop to me.

10 seconds long (a limit on a lot of the free generators) the cats don't seen to be visually tracking the ball (this is the big tell, anyone who has cats knows the laser focused tracking look) and the ball does something weird at the end.

Can't say for sure though, but would love to know where the later got it from.

I feel that #Gentoo #GURU is getting much less interest since the change of rules.

Not sure if that's a bad thing, given how much of the interest we're getting are people who just made a slopware and now are aggressively pushing it to all the distributions they can find. Some just do an automated submission without bothering to follow the rules. Other claim that they have read and agree to the rules, even though the rules explicitly forbid doing that.

Then, there are all these people who asked for access but apparently never committed anything.

• while getting end users addicted to using them

...She realized what Destruction she was causing, on a Global Scale because she knows personally what Global Warming does in her Area of the Country were flooding regularly occurs due to Climate Shifts

Re: tmux in OpenBSD, false positives are possible, because the tool is just looking at filenames and metadata, not actual file contents. If they're copying source code from a slop project, but not the metadata/commits, then it will give you a false negative.

In the meantime, #GitPython, the package that used to be dead (because the author is busily working on their next great thing) is now slopping out 4 "security" releases a week, as their #slop machine is busily fixing unintended variable expansion in every single URL they call. Unfortunately, they probably don't have enough tokens to fix them all at once, so instead all downstreams have to deal with the churn of endless security releases. Or the brain to figure out that maybe they could just disable variable expansion by default and solve them all at once.

It's truly a great time to be a #Python packager.

Damn, I use Obsidian for quick notes at work and have been meaning to try out #logseq but from their recent commits on GitHub it looks like they've gone the way of the #slop.

Any suggestions from anyone for a simple markdown based note taking app?

I kinda liked the gui of obsidian sometimes but wouldn't mind also being able to just use neovim. There are a handful of Zettelkasten themed nvim plugins, and I've considered org mode too.

Let's get this straight: anything created with "AI" is #slop.

It doesn't have to be vibe-coded. It doesn't have to be horrible code. It doesn't matter that you've spent hours perfecting the prompt. It doesn't matter that ten people have spent a week reviewing it in detail.

As long as an "AI" took part in writing it, it's slop. It's an unethical technology, and anything created with it is tainted. It's an inhuman technology, and you're supporting it. You're being disrespectful to your users and contributors. You're putting your own convenience over humanity. You're aiding the worst murderous assholes in the history of humanity. And what's perhaps worst, you quite likely believe that you are making a net positive contribution, that you're helping people, while you're actually disrespecting and harming them.

In practice that is impossible. If you drive a modern car it has the Linux kernel. If you have a smart TV or more you're also using the tainted kernel. Even if you have a stick which also streams or a camera you will have a Linux kernel in many cases.

These LLMs are an infection of the planet's  code base

Since you're already using BSD a solution would be to cut using Linux on your computers drastically
