Meta is cutting another 8000 jobs, but not before they surveil their employees and use their behaviors for training.

“The company told employees in a memo on Thursday that it planned to cut 10% of its workforce - roughly 8,000 staff. It said it would also not fill thousands more open jobs it had been hiring for.”

“The company just this week informed employees that it would begin tracking and logging their interactions with work computers in order to help train and improve its AI models, a move one employee called "dystopian" given the looming layoffs.”

            #VagueTooting:

Helping #SlopLords perfect their #slop so that you can keep your own kids out of the poorhouse for another year, meanwhile guaranteeing that just about everyone's kids will be in the poorhouse in about five years is not the ethical self-defense you think it is.

We all suffer because we esteem our own households to be more important than everyone else's.

Tech workers seriously need a freaking guild, already.

You don't need it in your office or organization, either.

Just got this from Microslop GitHub:

                  > We're updating how GitHub uses data to improve AI-powered coding tools. From April 24 onward, your interactions with GitHub Copilot—including inputs, outputs, code snippets, and associated context—may be used to train and enhance AI models unless you opt out.

I barely ever use GitHub. When I do, it's when I am forced to because some project I rely on only uses GitHub.

If you're project is only using GitHub, please consider migrating.

Didn't read the news for a week (bc I was returned to office and prefer to sleep more) and reading it now:

                      — Vim became a LLM slop
                      — ntfy is a LLM slop now
                      — systemd is a LLM slop too

                      What a time to be asleep^Walive :drgn_cup_sleepy:

Looks like my passion to the old and simple solutions made a good thing for me. Time to throw the fuck away the ntfy from my server and use SMTP or XMPP for sending alerts to me.

P.S. Hope, the itself willn't become a LLM slop oneday. Replacing it will not be so easy as with ntfy replacement. :drgn_cry_loud:

I'd like to leave behind. Although they are Swedish and not American, I'm aware that their business model is unsustainable. They pay very little to artists and, run unforgivable ads sometimes, and accept too much .

I tried as an alternative, and on a week I used both services, it attempted 20 times more commucation towards data trackers than Spotify. 😨

It's great that my measures and blocks it, but I don't see Deezer as a viable alternative anymore.

Learning a new AI-related term: workslop.

"The insidious effect of workslop is that it shifts the burden of the work downstream, requiring the receiver to interpret, correct, or redo the work. In other words, it transfers the effort from creator to receiver."
