I swear by uni ball gel pens.
I fell in love with them when I needed to write on a post-it note and the surface underneath it was a thick plush carpet. No troubles write and it came out dark. They don't need much pressure to write unlike most gel pens. And because of that, they don't dry up and stop writing like most ball point pens.
Random question for the Fediverse. I find myself out of working pens here, because all the various ones have dried up, etc. (have plenty of pencils etc.)
What is your suggestion for a more sustainable pen (I assume some kind of refillable pen?)... affordable in case it gets lost and so I can but a handful for here and there. Or, bright colored so I don't lose it, lol. Does not require fancy paper, this is for jotting down notes and scribbling stuff down on paper when needed, etc. Thoughts? Thanks all!

Maybe I am just old, but black tools and black radios and black bags inside other black bags with black things inside those black bags is NUTs. I mean, it's trendy among first responders and the "bros" but WE ARE NOT INVADING AFGHANISTAN IN TACTICAL BLACK AND FAST ROPING FROM HELICOPTERS, people. We're trying to find stuff fast. YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR STUFF. Stupid CAMO and all black tacti-cool stuff is... stupid. #random #rant
Getting the collar length is going to be a bit of a challenge.
And I think the bottom of the jacket probably should be a straight line... I think I flipped the wedge part. I will have to watch that.... I guess I can cut the jacket slightly long and adjust the bottom, however, as it needs to fold back over on itself.
Comic book "super hero" pitch I just thought up.
"SaaS Man" - Superheroics as a Service.
He's a for-fee savior. You can pay for a one-time rescue, but if you are the frequently abducted love interest, his subscription model is much more cost effective.
You may want to get the family plan which covers your whole family with a group license for his protective services.
Origin: he was bitten by a radioactive MBA, and fell into a vat of VC money.

Back at #college, late 80s, early 90s, so pre- web browsers, Google, et.al.
We had IPAC (Information and personal assistance center), a student volunteer run service on campus, which you could call, 24 hours a day, and ask any question.
They would either have the answer, or write it down in a book of pending questions, and somebody would look it up, and get back to you.
It was great for serious stuff, like campus events and schedules, but they would also try to answer silly stuff.

Randomly, two of the most useful (but not only) skills I have learned the last year.. sharpening scissors (dull but high quality used scissors go for pennies on the dollar) and being able to hem pants (so much less hunting and searching for pants, just get the ones that fit your waist and get any that are longer and hem them). #random #learning

Good things for today:
1. Thought I'd forgotten my work laptop when I had to work remotely today (had to run into LA early in the morning, playing Uber driver). But, I somehow put it in the car ahead of time and my brain did not register it, so was pleasantly surprised to find it in the trunk when I arrived at the destination.
2. Went to an Asian food store, looked for Gogucharu for making kimchee. Couldn't find it anywhere! Looked for 10 minutes. But, saw a big bag of hot pepper powder, on sale (cheap!), and remembered I wanted to try to discourage the squirrel from eating the garden plants. So bought that for the garden. Later learned (from someone here who could read the Korean writing on it) that is was gochucharu, lol. So the gojucharu is back in the kitchen. (some plants pre-seasoned before salting, lol)
3. Huge amount of oxalis in the yard, and I was going to have to figure out how to get rid of it. Huge amount of weeding work. Some creature has been eating it all and pulling it up by the roots. (AND, I learned a few minutes ago... it was the squirrels!)
4. Not vaporized (yet) by a nuclear bomb! 🤪
Composting animal bones (chicken, beef, pork) in compost for 6 months, and then taking the composted bones and cooking them in a solar cooker for 3 weeks makes the bones brittle enough to easily smash into bone meal between two bricks. #random #composting #gardening
Hmm, this store has quite the selection of stuff... Gunpowder. Suits to wear while riding your bicycle. Twine. Hammocks... Fireworks. Sewing machine oil. LOL.
LOL realizing (finally) that because I know how to hem pants (very easy), I only have to match the waist size, NOT the length, when buying pants, duh! (since I thrash my cargo pants, buying them used off eBay, as usual--why pay for new ones I am going to immediately stain/rip, lol. Either that, or I have to add pockets to some others received for Christmas, which annoyingly have no cargo pockets. Fashion maven, I am not.). #sewing #clothing #random

Randomly overheard some old guy telling his friends some story about working in Hollywood, proudly talking about how he once had shoved Barbara Streisand aside on a studio lot, without realizing who she was. 🤨 (I don't care if someone is a big star or not, what you think about them, but shoving someone is pretty rude, no matter the situation). #random
Hmm, did one of my neighbors just get in his car, and then drive two houses over to talk to the neighbor? His mobility must really be suffering (had a stroke a few years ago). Or, could they be looking at his car? (but why would the OTHER neighbor not just walk over there, except HE has mobility issues, I think was on a walker recently/has some kind of circulatory/walking issues too... Anyway... #random
#Random movie reviews from someone whose last two movies in the theater were "Piglets Big Movie" and "Avatar" (mostly spent trying not to barf due to motion sickness). Although I did see "Zootopia" before it was released, in a Disney private screening with Hans Zimmer and a dozen other people. 🤔
2025 The Running Man: not much plot (lots of no-plot), lots of action, okay to distract oneself for an evening, but went corporate (obvious product placements), blah blah blah, everything is predictable, end is terrible.
2022 Uncharted: silly plot, attempt to replicate a "Indiana Jones" kinda vibe, but then they went to "Goonies magical keys" and "flying pirate ships being hauled by helicopter" and it all kinda lost any appeal. If you want to distract yourself, okay.
4 spoons and a cheap cast iron pan (Apparently 1980's Chinese knockoff of no value, but should work fine for grilling stuff on cast iron outside). My $8 splurge at lunch. My son needed some metal spoons for taking for lunch (both kids are great about using real silverware for their bag lunches at work!). #random
More interesting stuff I do not need in the estate sales this weekend.
(looks like this person actually was in the midst of building their own e-tricycle, incomplete, with hub motor but not all there yet, it seems... maybe even built their own frame based on the welding equipment there...)

Hmmm... industrial sized coffee grinder from the 1800's, very tempting to see how much they are going to ask for that thing. (not that I need one that size, lol) I dunno what you do with it. #random #craigslist
This looks like someone butt-inserted a wildfire. At least it wasn't named "BLINK182"

Hmm, apparently everyday Maastricht is what Disneyland/Disney World strives to pretend to be (based on the videos I see of the place that aren't set to music, and have ambient city noise). Except, with bicycles. 🤔 #random #BikeTooter
Hmm, I think we've just about to reach "old man sitting in garage in his underwear and undershirt because we're not going to run the A/C" status here today in the neighborhood.
(which may have been great back in the 1980's or 90's, but I think a full week of this with folks with medical issues could result in heat illness).
So, if he were suicidal or a memory patient the first within-walking distance areas I'd search are in red. (probably already searched, by air and ground, I bet). Looking East. There's just dense housing to the west, Assuming he were suicidal, and didn't walk to the nearest field, the only place to look is exactly where they are looking (in the hills). But, if he were walking away from home and deciding not to come back, there's a massive giant area of no man's land to the north with no homes, though you have to walk 2 miles through civilization to get there. #random #SearchAndRescue

- a neat hack for the properly paranoid -
Your computer is likely generating random noise on your sound card. On some systems you can harvest this noise as true random entropy. This entropy can be diffused and whitened for use in cryptography.

Put up my patio sun sails, given the heatwave (in February), plus pulled out the new patio cushions for the patio table, thus increasing the odds of more rain in California, and/or unwarranted US airstrikes as a distraction from unpopular domestic political winds. #random
