California AB 2047: The End of Open Source 3D Printing

California just introduced a bill that doesn't just regulate "ghost guns", it mandates a digital kill switch for every 3D printer sold. California AB 2047 requires "blocking technology" that connects your printer to a government-approved database before every single print. If the system goes down, or your file is flagged, your hardware becomes a paperweight.

This isn't just about firearms. This is the death of Open Source. If this bill passes, it effectively bans Marlin, Klipper, and Orca Slicer, forcing every manufacturer to lock down their firmware. It turns general-purpose computing into a walled garden where you only rent permission to use the hardware you own.

The residents believed their home was possibly being broken into and called 911. In the five minutes between the call & when the police arrived, one of the residents fired from inside the home & struck the woman in the head, officials said.

…The woman who was killed, María Florinda Ríos Pérez de Velásquez, 32, was a mother of 4 children & had immigrated with her husband to the US from Guatemala about 3 years ago, acc/to her brother, Rudy Ríos Pérez.

The sun hadn’t yet risen when the gunshot rang out. A single shot, fired from inside a 3-bedroom home in suburban Indianapolis on Wednesday, pierced the front door & fatally struck a house cleaner who had arrived at the porch moments earlier with her husband.

The police in Whitestown, Indiana, the small but growing town where the shooting took place, said that 2 residents had been inside the home that morning when the cleaners arrived.

• You can see that in #Switzerland: Despite people having their [select-fire, "assault"] rifle at home behind their couch, you don't see that amount of "advanced suicides" as in the #USA even when you adjust everything per capita and guns. (In fact it's easier to buy a new machine gun there as a civilian than it is to get a C&R FFL in the USA.)

Same goes for places full off (il-)legal guns like Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo and #Germany:

• The latter one has at least 16,7M illegalized and and estimated >40M illegal guns in circulation, yet untrained cops are the prime shooters.

So tell me: If you don't trust your fellow citizen with a gun, why would you trust the same person if they get forcibly recruited and/or shoved into a uniform?
