soc.octade.net is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.

This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.

      I think its not as much that are gatekeeping, but more that work processes don't integrate well, or at all. To the benefit of the devs, who deliver the software at the end of the pipeline.

      At the start of my career I worked at the largest Print company in Europe (now bankrupt) and we created several award-winning dynamic websites. At the time wasn't a thing, but Interaction Design was and it was leading. It was also a time when we didn't have 'agile', and didn't have where everything is either an Issue or a PR. There were waterfall processes, and on the agile side you later had things like (Rational Unified Process). These acknowledged specifally different IT roles and different stages in the overall development lifecycle.

      For Social experience design, , I got inspired by RUP when defining the (the Free software development lifecycle, or Fediverse solution delivery lifecycle, depending on context). See:

                          I wouldn't necessarily want to rely on them. It's great they've put together these tools out there for us to make use of them, but it's more useful to find your own way (= communities & networks).

                            It would be an ongoing thing of course. We would measure + have testimony of the people.

                            I'd be the most respectful but most fear-dispelling person ever !

                                You might be interested to check out my posts around the concept "Community has no boundary" I talked about 5 years ago, e.g. in this topic: socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/

                                When I was still facilitator of I claimed that it wasn't a community in any real sense, with mostly driving by on self-interested motives. It was just a discussion , where a poor commons janitor (me) had to do the unthankful volunteer upkeep.

                                "Expectation mismatch" plays an important role when anyone mentions "community". A "community-driven project" is partly the formal that is in place, but mostly implicit cultural aspects. Knowing what you can expect is important, to not get disappointed.

                                A instance to me isn't . I only use the Home timeline.

                                As we navigate fedi we 'weave' in and out of seamlessly, without realizing it. A rich concept of inter-community networking is possible, I think, but it should be carefully designed.
