Got bored, built a window manager for Wayland.  Terminal and tag driven, so that I don't have to move my hands off the keyboard.  Fun times.

Yes, I know Wayland uses compositors and not the window manager / server concepts from x11; I used #river as a bootstrap to handle the compositor part and just did a bunch of config / customizations / etc - window manager style.

@nixCraft all I do is use a #minimalist #Desktop #Linux on a VAIO #P11Z & #EeePC701 because there's yet to be any decent device in that size category…

And if it comes down to it I'd rather #DIY @OS1337 instead…

I love the old school #Unix desktop environments. It goes hand in hand with the server grade hardware I could never afford, and just oozes industrial quality. Think heavy and intimidating #beige workstations by #HP, #DEC and #Sun with the power consumption of a regular house hold and metal cooling fans that could slice fingers.

Back in the day, #FVWM2 had some of the same vibe. Also, the original Common Desktop Environment (#CDE), created by some of the major vendors of Unix-like systems created back in the day is still available (https://sourceforge.net/projects/cdesktopenv/). If you're used to a modern desktop, it could be a rough experience for daily use though.

Honestly, I'm quite happy with #KDE #Plasma, and would be thrilled by just the visuals. I'm sure you know where I'm going with this, so without further jibberjabber, I give you: The CDE Plasma Theme! It's delicious! :D

Today KDE releases a bugfix update to KDE Plasma 6, versioned 6.6.6.

Plasma 6.6 was released in February 2026 with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience.

This release adds two months’ worth of new translations and fixes from KDE’s contributors.

You choose what gets installed. You choose when #updates happen. You choose what your #desktop looks like.

You are Neo.

Windows #users are still sitting in their pods, downloading the latest mandatory #update called KB-Whatever-Again, wondering why their printer suddenly speaks ancient Sumerian.

Linux is not perfect. Sometimes Wi-Fi drivers behave like a side quest in Dark Souls.

Sometimes you spend two hours fixing a problem just to feel smarter than everyone else.

But that is the point. The red pill was never about comfort. It was about #freedom.

And freedom means occasionally reading a forum post written by a Finnish guy in 2007 who solved your #problem and vanished forever like a #Jedi master.

Welcome to Linux. There is no spoon. Only #sudo.
