My wife is a certifiable Dubai chocolate addict, but does not drink coffee. I am a certifiable coffee addict, but I do not tend to like flavored coffee. (I order it “black and bitter, just like my soul.”)

I found this in the clearance bin at the grocery store, and bought a couple bags out of curiosity. As flavored coffee goes, it isn’t bad, but I’d rather have the plain stuff. It smells faintly of Dubai chocolate, but tastes like generic “flavoring additives.”

Here's the probably, which you can see visually. Left side: WAY OVER ROASTED. When brewed, tasted like an ashtray. On the right side: berry is not nearly roasted enough, so you get the horrible flavors of raw coffee berry (raw coffee berry flavors are really, really sour and terrible and have off flavors). So this is most certainly a bad roasting issue. The OTHER possible issue, is I did not grade these beans (ie used all my beans harvested... the commercial processors remove any floating beans as "poor quality". But half or more of my beans were floating.... ) #coffee

Progress! It took a few years to crack the code, but gave honest to goodness green coffee beans, ready to move on to roasting! The trick was wet processing these with added yeast, but ONLY for a day. And then into a dehydrator. Enough to remove the mucilage but not develop mold. #coffee #gardening

I was awakened this morning by my wife nudging me—not quite a shove, more like a weary suggestion that I get moving. She must’ve heard Charlie grumbling or shifting around.

My head’s not in the game. I’m dazed and running late—only eight minutes until mealtime. Feeding Charlie twice a day, on time, is my job, and I take it seriously. He eats well: some kind of chicken blend from Science Diet that actually looks decent, like tuna with peas and carrots. He gets dry food too, so he’s not hurting.

For his afternoon meal, I dress it up—chicken surprise surrounded by dog biscuits and a Beggin strip. It’s practically gourmet. Still, when I sit down to eat, he positions himself just so, in my line of sight, and stares like I owe him money.
