soc.octade.net is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.
lil bit of #amiga #ascii drawn whilst watching the #revision26 demoparty stream this morning for @macross :)
So I've been quietly building something and now it's finally ready.
https://ssbbss.org - the Secret Society of BBS SysOps - is now live.
It's a certification program for BBS operators. Four ranks: Initiate, Operator, Adept, and Master. Every rank has a curriculum covering the things that actually matter - BBS software, door games, message networks, ANSI art, FidoNet, the history and the law.
Study materials are free and open to anyone, no account needed.
When you're ready, you sit the exam. Pass, and you're a certified member. You get a downloadable PDF certificate with a QR verification link, an ANSI badge you can display on your own BBS, and a member ID in the public registry.
Right now there are 95/100 Founding Member spots available. £99 one-time - that covers all four exam slots, lifetime membership (no annual fees ever), a physical certificate shipped to you, and a low member ID. Once those 100 are gone, they're gone.
If you run a BBS, or you used to, or you just care about keeping this scene alive - come and have a look.
"For instance is there anything similar to RSS for gopher."The best way is likely to write a bash script to construct an XML file with a page per channel.
'cURL' should be useful since it support gopher, although you will have to custom script it.
'Lynx' browser also handles gopher quite nicely and you should be able to use the -dump feature and parse what you want.
'sfeed' may also help: https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/resolute/man1/sfeed_gopher.1.html

OFFPUNK
A command-line and offline-first smolnet browser/feed reader for Gemini, Gopher, Spartan and Web by Ploum.
https://sr.ht/~lioploum/offpunk/
Debian / Ubuntu APT Package Manager
$ apt search gopher
$ apt-get install gophernicus bombadillo lynx curl kristall pygopherd sfeed
profit!
Lynx is great for browsing gopher and nntp.
Kristall is a graphical browser with gopher support.
Gophie browser:
"Gophie is the Open Source Gopher browser for Windows, macOS, Linux and many more operating systems with Java support. Gophie allows you to navigate the Gopherspace, read text, watch images and download files with the integrated download manager. If you don’t like what you see, then Gophie is also fully customisable!"

Don't forget the RFCs. Gopher has a well-documented standard.

Released v1.3.3. of #Yaralyzer, my surprisingly popular tool for visualizing YARA rule matches with colors (a lot of colors).
1. --export-png images lets you export images of the analysis
2. almost all command line options (including multi argument ones like --yara-rules-dir) can be permanently set via environment variables or .yaralyzer file
3. couple of small bug fixes and debugging related command line options
You can try it on the web here: https://yaratoolkit.securitybreak.io/
(I didn't build this website, Thomas Roccia from Microsoft just integrated Yaralyzer into his existing site)
- Github: https://github.com/michelcrypt4d4mus/yaralyzer
- Pypi: https://pypi.org/project/yaralyzer/
- on macOS you can also get it with #Homebrew by installing Pdfalyzer: brew install pdfalyzer

10Rogue (1984)
Food is often randomly scattered throughout the levels. You have varying degrees of luck, or not. Finding it as you progress is key. Save your steps! Yesterday I lost the game at level 8, ran out of food, & ended up stuck.. My character couldn't move anymore.
Today seems to be looking better. We'll see!

Just a quick note to say I’ve set up a Patreon for anyone who enjoys or benefits from the BBS, textmode, and related services I run.
Everything will stay free to use as always, but if you’d like to help me keep the lights on (and maybe fund a few upgrades), any support would mean a lot.
You can find it here:

Naturally, I had heard of this game for a very long time but never gave it a try until I spotted it in the Manjaro repo. Having tried it out at this point, I can't believe how unappreciated it is these days!
One of the most classic roguelikes, based on the Silmarillion-era Tolkien stories, and fully open source to boot.
Whether you play in ASCII or with fan-made tile packs, it's a fantastic retro roguelike!
@mrmasterkeyboard @arnan if there's one thing I'd wish for, it's a #CLI / #TUI based "#Office Suite" with like:
But that's just me wanting to be able to work entirely on @os13379one day...
