I've got a weird issue with #XWayland. It's not a total deal-breaker, but it's just a bit annoying...

(I'm running KDE Plasma 6.3.6 on Debian Trixie (stable))

My laptop display (left) is set to 1.85x scaling. My 1080p display (right) is set to 1x.

If I don't turn on the option to manually scale XWayland applications ("Legacy applications (X11): Scaled by the system"), the X11 applications I use look SMALLER than normal on my main (right) screen. Left screen too, IIRC.

If I DO turn on that option ("Scaled by the system"), then the applications look great on the main (1x) screen, but they're of course a blurry mess on the left (1.85x) screen.

I thought the setting meant that the applications would be smaller than normal (unscaled) on the left screen, but they're actually tiny on both screens.

Any ideas?

Today I built a SATA enclosure holding structure out of LEGO for my Raspberry Pi 5. Fun! The Raspberry Pi stays decently cool at 50 degrees Celcius, idling.

A Lego structure looking a bit like a castle, colors are grey, beige and black. Houses a Raspberry Pi 5, with SATA enclosure. A black USB wifi dongle juts out of the Raspberry Pi 5.

Woof. Zorin OS was running Crossover and Microsoft Word 2016 great. After a recent update, Word is now crashing randomly and displaying improperly.

Should I roll back the Zorin updates? I don't think there was any Crossover update.

If I should roll it back, how do I do that? I know how to use the command line but am very uncomfortable with it.

[Please don't come in my mentions and tell me to use Libre Office. That is not the question.]

I went on a half-day journey of discovery through QubesOS, LVM, and device-mapper, so that I could get my laptop working again after it rebooted randomly at a very inopportune moment.

Frustrating and scary (this is my main work machine), but I also did learn a bunch.

For example, that LVM is basically an interface over device-mapper, and when something gets fscked in a weird way, you can use dmsetup directly to un-fsck it.

Todd C. Miller has been maintaining the codebase for over 30 years. This is exactly one of those cases where an entire critical infrastructure is held together by the work of a single volunteer who apparently can’t find anyone willing to sponsor him for some financial support.

Linux is married to AI hegemony. It's time for a new and better OS. Skift might become a candidate:

                  SkiftOS : https://skiftos.org/

                  It's not a *NIX!

"skiftOS isn’t POSIX. It’s a fresh API and userland inspired by Plan 9, Haiku, and Fuchsia. Familiar ideas, different contracts."

Problem: the GPL is poison. It has polluted Linux and the Linux userland software so that only large corporations can afford to monetize it. BSD License or MIT License would be much better allowing small players to produce unique work without then being forced to share their source code with the AI hegemony racket.
