soc.octade.net is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.
So I relaunched my blog again. This time I’m hosting it myself. Never again with third-party platforms.
My bad experiences with Medium and @write_as led me here, to my own Jekyll solution.
My very first article published with this system talks about the journey and why this decision matters.
(Also, I have finally resolved to calling it a blog.)

Usenet is accessible via TOR and open access servers that don't require registration or identifying information.
The writer can write and discuss using a pseudonym or pen name without fear of retaliation from employers, government, friends, and family. This encourages some people to share their innermost thoughts they would otherwise not express. Of course it also encourages trolls, but there are plenty of trolls everywhere else.
Usenet is text-centric so unlike the fediverse there is not a stream of distracting images.
Even after all these years I still prefer reading and posting Usenet newsgroups over all other forms of so-called, 'social media'.

Mastodon doesn't really seem to be the place to have meaningful discussions, but maybe some interesting thoughts could come out of this anyway:
Aside from not having regular space travel (though maybe airships), are there significant differences between #PlanetaryRomance and #SpaceOpera? Are there really differences in stock characters, stock plots, and archetypes?
Couldn't Dune just as well (or even more) be called Planetary Romance than Space Opera?
Current #writing projects:
* Translate R.L. Stevenson's lesser-known short fiction ENG --> SWE
* Translate my bonus mom's Hälsingland guidebook SWE --> ENG
* Copy edit and ENG revise a journal paper I've co-authored but am not the main writer on
Scrivener 3.1.6 has been released for #Windows. The update appears to also work when running under Wine.

Remember, your character will have an immediate goal, as well as their overarching goal. It's important to create tension with both in your opening chapters.

Sorry going to put an open-ended question on blast.
I'm finding it difficult to do collaborative story-writing and world-building with others as it seems to keep boiling down to a tug-of-war over creative direction.
For those of you that do collaborative writing or have creative works that you have delegated aspects of to others, how do you do it?
Do you set certain rules or stipulations? Is there quirks you run into? Let me know your thoughts.
I'm playtesting something for a company. I just submitted a report on the first 2/5ths.
"I've been a professional book and journal editor for decades, but currently I'm on the dole. As you will find, I've written quite detailed continuity edits and proofing corrections for these first two scenarios. I'd be happy to do so for the remaining three as well if you could pay me a small fee."
