The history behind this game is super interesting. There is no canonical "Trek" game as it is the result of years of people typing the code direct into mainframes and tweaking it in a kind of Cambrian evolution. I did a big write up on the Steam page for my version, CGA Trek, out today!

The billionaires investing in space don't want Star Trek ... they want Dune ... but we got Spaceballs.
New game! CGA Trek is my historical deep dive into the "Trek" game that originated on mainframes in 1971.
It was super interesting to research this unique project which spread via code printed in books and magazines and was rarely implemented the same way twice.

Some discussion on Usenet from 1982 between #StarTrek fans discussing Wrath of Khan, including musings about Spock's fate in the next film, if he even returns. ;)
Eventually this kind of content will vanish...
Star Trek The Motion Picture from 1979 is so delightfully serious and earnest. It's really beautiful to look at too.
There is a single cover that has bothered me for a while.
The song is "In Brightness" by Thy Veils. A chill electronic song with airy vocals and a complex drum beat.
But the cover, though... I know this woman from somewhere. But where? My mind wrinkled and noodled for months.
It finally clicked. The woman looks like Data's daughter. You know, that TNG episode.
My mind may now rest.
Hear me out:
Every episode of the original Love Boat but with ships and locations from the #StarTrek universe.
I so looked forward to the premiere of #StarTrek Section 31. But I never watched it until today because everyone said it was so awful.
Today I decided to watch it.
And ... yeah.
My poll about which Start Trek spin-off from The Original Series you think is "the best" finished with predictable results. Only 32 participants but TNG and DS9 tied at 28% each and Lower Decks was second with 22%. None of the others broke 10%.
The results of a Poll asking which spin-off from Star Trek The Original Series is "best". You could only pick one!
For my wife and I, I told @xmacdonald
it was TNG for my wife and I until we finally watched DS9. Now it's DS9. Enterprise does have a special place because of Bakula's earnestness. Also both Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds are both quite good and respectful of canon.
I wanted the poll to really force participants to think. When you have to pick just one, it gets difficult.
@nwarner suggested I do a version of this with checkboxes instead of radio buttons.
So, the new poll is "which spin-offs from The Original Series did you thoroughly enjoy?"
I have a limited number of slots, so I have to leave off two. I'm going to do the same as the first poll. I will leave off The Original Series itself since none of the others would exist without it and Section 31 because it is a movie and basically just an elaborate bottle episode for Discovery.
You can feel free to boost this toot.
I will admit that part of my love of Enterprise comes from the Temporal Agent and Temporal Cold War content that was created for Star Trek Online heavily featuring Daniels. It's not canon, but it made me appreciate what they were hinting at in the show.

What's the best Star Trek spin-off show from the original series?
FortunatelyUnfortunately, I ran out of spaces and had to leave off "Section 31". I mean, I had to omit one and I chose to leave off "Section 31" because it was a made-for-TV movie, not a show.

#StarTrek #88
What's even worse is that the very first episode NBC aired (again, out of order) was "The Man Trap," a very horror-like episode that was really off-brand for Star Trek.
It colored the show as a kind of Outer Limits-ish creepy sci-fi, rather than a "firm" sci-fi.
I literally grew up in the 80s thinking that #StarTrek was a horror show because the ads for the VHS tapes showed the salt monster from "The Man Trap," and Pike's disfigured face from "The Menagerie."
What alien planet in scifi has the most screen time or most fleshed out world building? It might be Kronos from #StarTrek. Gallifrey from #DoctorWho has been on screen for 60 years but not that often. Coruscant just got some love in Andor. My top suggestion though is Bajor from Deep Space Nine.
I know I am the last one to figure this out but if Trelane is (a) Q’s son in “Wedding Bell Blues” that completely contradicts everything that Q said and did in the #StarTrekVoyager episode “The Q and the Gray” about having a child and that it isn’t done. Something like “Q were not created Q have always been” - why would they bother with a major Q canon contradiction? It seems unnecessary.
