There’s something to be said about how neoliberalism, in pursuit of transforming public services to private, has obscured what democracy dictates public.

In policing, we have privatized surveillance such that companies control what data even police have access to, let alone defendants. Where processes and their resultant data used to be subpoenable, now we have strict NDAs and proprietary claims.

This is a major impediment to justice, accountability, equality.
