This photo of the vintage 1950’s neon sign of the Sandman Motel located in St. Petersburg Florida shows off the beauty of the road signs that were designed to capture the eye. The sign is very rusted and roached in 2024. I knew I had to take a photo of it before it is either further damaged or sold. I utilized my skills in photo restoration to ‘restore’ the sign as close as I could get it to look to its original pristine condition. The sign was also blank of any message at the time I took the photo. So, I took the liberty of presenting an Artist’s Interpretation/ Embellishment. I have two versions available – this one with a humorous nod to Florida wildlife and a Worldly Wise one with a dream quote. We are all feeling the pinch these days, as times are tight and prices climb. Too many times, the old vintage places/signs get lost to time and decay or gentrification of the neighborhood happens. I knew I had to get a photo of this vintage neon sign back when I was out in St Pete in 2024. These three panels show the original photograph of the rusted & roached vintage neon sign of The Sandman Motel and the process of my restoration 'restoring' it back to near original look from the dilapidated state. Some power lines are cloned out and a sign. And yes, I took one liberty with an edit. Those with eagle eye will note that the lattice wall with brown dead vines of the motel building visible behind the sign was replaced. The decayed vines just look out of place with a 'new' looking sign. I didn't have a picture in my photo folders of a lattice wall with greenery. But I did have a stone wall with ivy. I layered in a wall with ivy leaves from a picture I took several years ago in Chicago. The sign was also blank of any message at the time I took the photo. So, I took the liberty of presenting an Artist’s Interpretation/ Embellishment. I have two versions available – this one with a humorous nod to Florida wildlife and a Worldly Wise one with a dream quote. I shared the progress last year with the Mastodon Art server community and received some feedback for which I am grateful for.
