Against a black background, this #micropoetry by naomi olivia, reads: on a bush cardinal. if i say i see a cardinal do you THINK you know already their color? — is not the chocolate bird as remarkable? Line spacing, indentation, bold text, underlining and all capital letters play a role in the visual intensity of the piece, with the ”title” — “on a bush cardinal” being underlined and in bold text, an empty line below, separating it from the rest of the poem. similarly, the first line, “if I say I see a cardinal” stands alone, another empty line beneath it. At the end of line 2, “do you think” the word “think” is in all capital letters — the only such word in a poem that otherwise uses only lower case letters. The next line “you know already” precedes two empty lines beneath it and line 4, “their color?” is right-justified. Two more empty lines preceded the final two lines. Line 5 begins with an em-dash and then reads “is not the chocolate bird”, followed by the last line “as remarkable?” naomi olivia is a proud Transgender poet from st. louis/central florida. find naomi on instagram: @moth.carcass.coat (a collaboration with best friend & editor erin vastola). #poetry #chocolate #spring #bird
