Punk not Dead

A high-angle photograph capturing a young coot chick swimming in murky, rippling water.

The most prominent feature is its head, which is bald on top with vibrant pinkish-red skin. Bright red-orange down feathers form a messy, wire-like collar around its neck and face, giving it a slightly wild or disheveled look.

The water is dark greenish-brown and highly reflective, showing abstract silvery-blue reflections of the sky and surroundings.

A woodpecker greeted me this morning.

Then a songbird sang right outside my window.

The fledglings left the nest above my window. For days I could hear them chirping as their parents came to and fro with grub.

Now birds are singing all around my yard as the sun rises.
