I am wary of forums for #Linux / #FOSS (mostly because of obnoxious fossbros berating noobs for fun), so I ask here. I am using Eye of Gnome (47.0) under #Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS. Until a couple of weeks ago, while scrolling through images in a directory using the left and right arrow keys, I was able to simply hit the "delete" key to delete images I don't need. Now I get the error message "Error on deleting image filename.jpg Couldn't access trash." How can I fix this?

(hopefully that combination helps the rotten grape fans to move on quickly, I need leet Linux nerds who know about wine and midi passthrough)
I have a pedal with a win/mac software controller, which uses midi to communicate with the pedal. I would like to attempt to run this under wine; is passing through midi a difficult thing with wine?
I don't even need the timing to be particularly good, as all the software is doing (for me, anyways) is managing presets, so I can have the correct PC sent for various songs.

@cstross @foone I do remember there was an additional wrinkle in that the (donated) box I was trying to install #Slackware onto was a PS/2 [*] and the MCA architecture wasn't officially supported by the Slackware installation disks.
And astonishingly, I think I may have found a copy of the document I had to follow in order to hack the installation to work. https://www.linuxjournal.com/article/2037
Looking back and considering it was my first real experience with installing Linux, it's astonishing I got it to work. But it did, and that machine became my daily driver for the next few years.

Doch hinter all dem stehen Menschen.
Denn genau davon lebt unsere Gemeinschaft.

note 1
When Microsoft redesigned Recall with VBS enclaves, AES-256-GCM encryption, Windows Hello authentication, and a Protected Process Light host, the message was clear: the data is locked in a vault.
The vault is solid. The delivery truck is not.
AIXHost.exe, the process that renders the Recall timeline, has no PPL, no AppContainer, no code integrity enforcement. Any process running as the logged-in user can inject code into it and call the same COM APIs the legitimate UI uses. Once the user authenticates with Windows Hello, decrypted screenshots, OCR text, and metadata flow through AIXHost.exe as live COM objects. TotalRecall Reloaded sits inside that process and extracts everything
No admin required. Standard user. No kernel exploit. No crypto bypass. Just COM calls

So I wanted to share with you this little project of mine. I delved into "retro-necromancy" and reanimated one very old UNIX utility called ile written by Robert Pendleton in 1988. I found it on one of the Walnut Creek source code CDs from 1994.
What it does is simply works like an input line editor (hence ile) for shells and programs that do not support interactive line editing. To put it simply, it adds Emacs-style keybindings like ^A, ^E, ^K, ^U and so on and command history that you can easily navigate.
Of course, these days it's hard to find a shell that doesn't support line editing.
But this little tool can still be usable, for example, with ed. It's nice to have Emacs-style editing in ed.
It can work like shell replacement or just run like a "middleman" between any given program. It respects terminal settings and doesn't get in a way. Keybindings are configurable.
Needless to say, the code from 1988 wouldn't run on any modern system. It was written in K&R style because there was no ANSI C standard yet! And #UNIX was quite a different beast back then.
So I ported it to modern systems, rewrote outdated bits (like sgttyb ioctls and brutal utmp handling).
Currently it builds and runs on #Linux, #OpenBSD, #FreeBSD and #NetBSD. Hopefully without too much bugs.
You can find it on Codeberg:
https://codeberg.org/chesheer/ile
Can anyone recommend me a good stem-splitter for #Linux?
I'm submitting songs of mine for a sync agency, and they need instrumental versions. That would be easy enough, but the thing is, I record my vocals and acoustic guitar live in most cases, so any instrumental would have some vocal bleed. Stem-splitters are useful for reducing bleed.
The build script for writerdeckOS v2.0 can be found here: https://github.com/tinkersec/writerdeckOS
While I am no longer supporting this project (I can't address bug issues or help with installation any longer), folks are welcome to use the code as is or fork it and run with the project.
If anyone wants to build out version 2.0 and create installation media for it, they are welcome to do so.
Cheers. It was fun working on this project and I deeply deeply deeply regret having to drop it. I just hit a wall with trying to get a better installation media and I don't have time to actively work on this project and keep up my other food projects.
I hope y'all have a great day.
I tried to SSH into my #Linux server but kept getting “Permission denied (publickey)”.

People think the #Matrix was about robots. It wasn't. It was about operating systems.
#Windows is the blue pill.
You take it, and everything stays comfortable. Pretty icons. Friendly sounds. A setup wizard asking if you want to save your soul to the #cloud. Updates appear at the worst possible moment like a Marvel post-credit scene nobody asked for. Your #PC reboots. You cry. #Microsoft thanks you for improving your experience.
#Linux is the red pill.
You wake up. You see how deep the #RabbitHole goes.
At first, it is terrifying. The #terminal stares at you like Darth Vader asking if you know the power of the #CommandLine. You type one wrong character and feel like you accidentally launched nuclear missiles.
But then something changes. You realize your #computer actually belongs to you.
No ads in the Start Menu. No #AI assistant spying harder than a reality TV producer.
No mysterious background process eating half your #RAM like Pac-Man after three energy drinks.
You choose what gets installed. You choose when #updates happen. You choose what your #desktop looks like.
You are Neo.
Windows #users are still sitting in their pods, downloading the latest mandatory #update called KB-Whatever-Again, wondering why their printer suddenly speaks ancient Sumerian.
Linux is not perfect. Sometimes Wi-Fi drivers behave like a side quest in Dark Souls.
Sometimes you spend two hours fixing a problem just to feel smarter than everyone else.
But that is the point. The red pill was never about comfort. It was about #freedom.

```
command python ...
```
Both \ and " symbols allows you to run real python command and ignore python alias at the CLI:
```
\python ...
"python" ...
```
Or just full path:
```
