hey so. looking for a job (NZ or fully remote willing to hire a kiwi) in SRE, security, or linux/Unix system administration. 15 years experience administering Linux and Unix boxes, intermediate level of experience working with docker compose and containerisation and container security. No prior job experience unfortunately, all those 15 years were mostly personal projects and small-scale stuff for friends. I'm also 26, so I started when I was 11, explaining the no jobs so far. Currently running an entire multi-machine personal cloud infrastructure with a demonstration of all the services I have running at status.highenergymagic.net. Three machines, 72 docker containers. One running most of them, one running Mastodon+glitchsocial, one running the uptime monitor. encrypted root on ZFS, alpine linux, gVisor on supported containers, plan to move to Kata. Entirely willing to accept entry-level job placements, no expectation of being paid a lot or anything, just want to be doing something and move the needle a little on my current "being broke" status. Currently using gVisor, docker compose, and kata containers in production, experience with Linux, docker, Net/Open/FreeBSD, Cisco IOS, Juniper Junos, Mikrotik and UniFi, configuring and administering Asterisk, plus extensive experience with IBM AIX and Sun Solaris.

Please boost for reach, any job offers please DM me.

The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman is demanding answers from CISA about an alarming data exposure incident wherein a contractor leaked oodles of internal CISA passwords -- including multiple AWS GovCloud credentials -- in a public GitHub profile for six months until notified by Yours Truly. The letter this week from Sen. Chuck Grassley (IA) is notable because he's the most senior lawmaker to inquire about this colossal screw up so far, and he's a Republican.

                                Mr. Nicholas M. Andersen
Acting Director
Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency
Dear Acting Director Andersen:

On May 18, 2026, it was reported that a contractor-employee for the Cybersecurity &
Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) maintained a public GitHub repository, a cloud-based platform used to store and share information for purposes of developing software code, that stored CISA credentials to several highly sensitive AWS GovCloud accounts and a large number of internal CISA systems, including passwords and cloud keys.1

The title of the public repository was reportedly “Private-CISA.”2
Reports stated “a review of the GitHub account and
its exposed passwords show the ‘Private-CISA’ repository was maintained by an employee of Nightwing.”3

It was also reported the GitHub account that included the repository titled
“Private-CISA” was taken offline shortly after at least two cyber-security research companies notified CISA of the exposure, but the exposed AWS keys continued to remain valid for another 48 hours.4 CISA spokesperson Marco DiSandro said the agency is “aware of the reported exposure and is continuing to investigate the situation,” and that there is “no indication that any sensitive data was compromised as a result of this incident.”5

However, according to reports, CISA would not say if the agency has seen any evidence of a breach stemming from this exposure.

**First entry into RetroShare: how to find peers**

In RetroShare you don’t “find people” in the usual sense. You don’t search — you agree. This is a fundamental mindset shift; without it, the first launch will always feel empty.

The first thing to accept: there is no global lobby in RetroShare. The emptiness after installation is not a bug, but the honest state of a network without links. Until you have trusted contacts, you literally have no network.

**The basic method — out-of-band contact.**
Peers are found outside RetroShare. These are friends, colleagues, members of thematic communities, people from Matrix, XMPP, IRC, Mastodon, forums — any place where key exchange can happen safely. RetroShare does not start with a “search” button, but with the phrase: “here is my key.”

**The second path — a control peer.**
The most reliable way for first entry is a second instance you control, or a pre-arranged experimental partner. This removes uncertainty: if the connection fails, the issue is technical, not social.

**The third path — thematic islands.**
There are small RetroShare communities built around ideas: privacy, P2P, darknet research, offline activism. They are not widely advertised because the network is not designed for random influx. Entry always starts with dialogue, not a click.

                                        **What does not work.**
Publishing keys into the void. Waiting for someone to add you. Relying on auto-discovery. This is centralized-network thinking applied to a system where it has no meaning.

**How to know you’ve found a peer.**
The contact comes online. The connection stabilizes. Services start working: chat, forums, file exchange. At that point RetroShare stops being an abstraction and becomes an environment for communication.

                                        **Bottom line:**
in RetroShare, people appear first —
and only then does the network emerge.

The new California age verification law is a version of INGSOC's telescreen watching you. And the usual self-proclaimed software freedom fighters are AWOL as this attack on your freedom is executed.

Don't listen to apologists who claim this isn't a big deal. It is a huge deal. This law is not about protecting children. The California law is a ruse for laying the foundation and precedent for mandatory remote control of all operating systems. They are using children as a shield for their true intentions. It's called a 'subterfuge' or a 'pretext' to hide the real rationale. And in politics subterfuge is very common. These politicians don't care about your children. They care about control and information is control. Compliance with California's new law is highly corrosive to free software and deadly to personal privacy.

With the mandatory age verification API in place, legislators can later add more laws mandating retrieval of even more privacy-invasive information just to install and use any operating system. This is Big Brother's telescreen in your living room. And the Linux community is nearly silent on the matter, instead focused on artificial intelligence investment.

Where were the software freedom organizations when California was mandating installation of in all free and open source operating systems? Did they oppose it? Or did they support it by silence? The California age verification law is the greatest threat to software freedom in recent history., striking right at the root of software installation for all users. Yet (((crickets))).

This was swiftly followed, in early 1991, by a proposed piece of U.S. Senate legislation that would force electronic communications service providers to hand over people’s personal data. (The key clause, S.266, was pushed by the then chairman of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Joe Biden.)"

When he finished his software in 1991, he published it all online, free for anyone who wanted to use it. He called it “Pretty Good Privacy,” or PGP for short, and within weeks it had been downloaded and shared by thousands of people around the world. “Before PGP, there was no way for two ordinary people to communicate over long distances without the risk of interception,” said Zimmermann in a later interview. “Not by phone, not by FedEx, not by fax.” It remains the most widely used form of email encryption to this day."

The isolation can effectively be nullified through AirSnitch, the name the researchers gave to a series of attacks that capitalize on the newly discovered weaknesses. Various forms of AirSnitch work across a broad range of routers, including those from Netgear, D-Link, Ubiquiti, Cisco, and those running DD-WRT and OpenWrt.

AirSnitch “breaks worldwide Wi-Fi encryption, and it might have the potential to enable advanced cyberattacks,” Xin’an Zhou, the lead author of the research paper, said in an interview. “Advanced attacks can build on our primitives to [perform] cookie stealing, DNS and cache poisoning. Our research physically wiretaps the wire altogether so these sophisticated attacks will work. It’s really a threat to worldwide network security.” Zhou presented his research on Wednesday at the 2026 Network and Distributed System Security Symposium.

Paper co-author Mathy Vanhoef, said a few hours after this post went live that the attack may be better described as a Wi-Fi encryption “bypass,” “in the sense that we can bypass client isolation. We don’t break Wi-Fi authentication or encryption. Crypto is often bypassed instead of broken. And we bypass it ;)” People who don’t rely on client or network isolation, he added, are safe."

If instead of the current Hash+Salt based modality of password management, and given the relative lack of quantum complexity in how that all works for authentication, I have a proposition.

For any given password length N, N! hashes are taken for the password such that any substring starting with the first character and any arbitrary following sequential characters (D) to the length of the string (c0->cD) where D < N. This would require a quantum actor to deal with an element quantum mechanics is explicitly bad at dealing with: Certainty.

Instead of relying on the relatively low quantum complexity of the hashes, we extrapolate into another dimension and create an ordering of hashes that becomes a tangible certainty. Instead of having to find all of the hashes in a field (Low quantum complexity, High computational complexity), the operator must find a specific order from those hashes in the field (Extremely high quantum complexity, Moderate computational complexity).

It would also reduce the urgency of collision discoveries in hashing algorithms too.

                                                                                                                                            Just a thought.
