I'm a #Physics PostDoc at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics near #Munich, Germany! I play with ultracold atoms in lattices of laser light to simulate other quantum systems!

No tolerance for discrimination of any kind.

so, some people may wonder why i do not maintain BSID and BSID-JS as often as i probably should. that's because of lack of partisipation. basically my rule is that if you want a feature within it, weather you are #blind, or whatever you are, doesn't matter, it's your job to implement, weather it be by fingers on the keyboard with your #python or #javascript/wrangler, and send out a pull request, or AI generated code. seams not many want to do that, and because of suuch, i've stopped supporting it for now. of corus, there is 1 exception, and that is if there's a new implementation in gemini or CF workers AI that physically prevents the image descriptions from getting out, or a change in discords API, in that case i will patch it. other than that, if you, say, have a flashier model yyou want deployed, etc etc, you code it yourself.

And the next big blocker for #Python 3.15 in #Gentoo is time-machine. Which is obviously broken. There's a patch but it's #slop and complex, and it's sitting for 3 months already with no reply. Because obviously patching CPython internals is so much a better idea than freezegun ever were. All these time-based tests need all the ricing you can get; portability doesn't matter.

#Python Hypothesis package now requires #RustLang. This is a scale of reverse dependencies I can't handle. I guess this means it's the end of WD40 profiles on #Gentoo, and therefore the end of support for Alpha, ARM<v6, HPPA, M68k, i486 and some other random subsets of architectures and profiles. Thanks for all the fish, etc.

I'm looking for work, please boost!

I'm a senior software engineer with 35 years of experience. I've worked across an unusually wide range of domains: mobile game backends, privacy-preserving data platforms, high-throughput COVID testing infrastructure, email and account systems, e-payment processing, job marketplace systems, and bioinformatics. I pick up new domains quickly and have a track record of doing it repeatedly. I understand how to turn business needs into engineering requirements.

I've worked remotely since the 1990s and can operate with minimal supervision. I don't need hand-holding to find the right problem to solve. Several of my most valued projects were self-directed: I identified the need, built the thing, and shipped it.

Some of the technologies I'm familiar with include: Python, Perl, TypeScript/JavaScript, Haskell, Go, C, Java. Postgres, MySQL, SQLite. Flask, SQLAlchemy. AWS (Lambda, S3, RDS, SQS, EC2). Docker, Git. Github and Gitlab.

I've also repeatedly picked up new languages and stacks as needed: Haskell for differential privacy research, TypeScript for a 24/7 AWS Lambda system, Flask for my most recent employer. I've become productive with new systems over and over, and I can do it quickly.

I'm also a published author (Higher-Order Perl, Morgan Kaufmann), longtime blogger, and conference speaker with a reputation for making complex ideas clear.

I built pagevault, a tool that turns any file into a self-contained encrypted HTML page. PDFs, images, whole websites, encrypted into a single .html you can email or host anywhere. Decrypts in the browser via Web Crypto API, no backend needed.

Chunked encryption handles 100+ MB files without choking the browser. Each chunk gets its own script tag, decrypted sequentially, then removed from the DOM for GC.
