Another beautiful day for a walk. It was shady in the woods, but warm with a cool breeze. It smelled so fresh!

A narrow tree with a leafy green background. On the narrow tree is a wooden diamond, with a white diamond symbol in the middle which reads "Grand Valley Trail" with a GVT logo in the middle

An old called tree. On the left, the rotten wood has turned to dirt, and small green plants are growing out of it. All that's left is the outside of the tree with its bark, twisted in a spiral.
The ground is covered in green growing leaves, and trees and leaves cover the bsckground

A straight section of dirt trail. To the left and right are tall trees whose branches are too high to be in the shot. Lots of bright green foliage filles the spaces between

A slightly winding trail with a small boardwalk at the end. Short green undergrowth lines the edges, and brown trees and foliage fill everywhere else

    Cornflower

A cornflower with an intense, radiating electric blue pigment. The very center has hints of deep purple and magenta.

The flower is perfectly centered in the frame, shot from a top-down perspective. The background is heavily blurred, which makes the blue petals pop beautifully against the muted green and brown foliage.

Had a great day hiking to waterfalls yesterday in the White Mountains, NH. Six beautiful waterfalls involving three trailheads and four trails. More pics (and a video) to come, but will be hitting the trails again shortly.

Photo of waterfall as viewed from downstream. Pool of reflecting water at bottom of waterfall. Green trees at top of waterfall. A small row of boulders in foreground in stream with water flowing over it.

Gordon Falls, Snyder Brook, Presidential Range, White Mountains, New Hampshire.

Video (17 s) of waterfall shown earlier in this thread. Sound on and wait for it! Enjoy!

Not all trails are made just of dirt and rock. Some also involve crossing streams. This is one of our stream crossings from the trip earlier this week. Relatively easy, just took a little thought before taking the stretched-out step over the water between the two boulders-- main concern was that the launch/land points on the two boulders were wet slippery moss on sloping rock surfaces.

Photo of hiker crossing mountain stream in forested area. The hiker is using a trekking pole in each hand planted on nearby boulders to help with her balance. The hiker's right foot is in mid-flight, stretching out over the flowing water toward a boulder several feet in front of her. Water is flowing between the boulder her left foot is planted on and the boulder she is stepping toward.

Brookbank Trail where it crosses Snyder Brook, at the top of Tama Falls, Presidential Range, White Mountains, NH. The top of the falls are immediately behind the camera.

As if a town had no interest in its forests but to cut them down!"

A woodpecker greeted me this morning.

Then a songbird sang right outside my window.

The fledglings left the nest above my window. For days I could hear them chirping as their parents came to and fro with grub.

Now birds are singing all around my yard as the sun rises.

                    Explanation:
Some stars explode in slow motion. Rare, massive Wolf-Rayet stars are so tumultuous and hot that they are slowly disintegrating right before our telescopes. Glowing gas globs each typically over 30 times more massive than the Earth are being expelled by violent stellar winds. Wolf-Rayet star WR 124, visible near the featured image center and spanning six light years across, is thus creating the surrounding nebula known as M1-67. Details of why this star has been slowly blowing itself apart over the past 20,000 years remains a topic of research. WR 124 lies 15,000 light-years away towards the constellation of the Arrow (Sagitta). The fate of any given Wolf-Rayet star likely depends on how massive it is, but many are thought to end their lives with spectacular explosions such as supernovas or gamma-ray bursts.
