Update: It also looks like members of the Senate are trying to put together their own packages as well:

-One package would bundle Senate KOSA, the NO FAKES Act, and the App Store Accountability Act together in a compromise with big tech regarding GenAI regulation

-Another is Hawley and Durbin trying to slip the DEFIANCE Act and STOP CSAM Act into a must pass bill (NDAA). They've tried this several times before but failed. Still it has a possibility of succeeding.

Call your Senators and Representatives ASAP!

RED ALERT! The KIDS Act (H.R.7757) is being teed up for a vote in the House next week! This bill is an omnibus style package which includes horrible bills like the Kids Online Safety Act and the SCREEN Act! Call your Senators and Representatives ASAP!

Reading the latest version of the bill and it seems like House is sticking with their version of KOSA. This will set up a showdown between the House and the Senate as both chambers have dug in their heels regarding their version of KOSA. I doubt either chamber will fully get their way.

A former U.S. Marine reservist and seven others were sentenced Tuesday to decades in prison over a shooting last year that wounded a police officer during a demonstration at a Texas immigration detention center.
Prosecutors called the crime an act of terrorism and said the eight were linked to a leftist militant group, antifa.
The defendants’ attorneys denied any antifa ties and family members expressed shock and anger over the stiff sentences.
Benjamin Song, the Marine reservist who was convicted of opening fire during the July 4 demonstration outside the Prairieland Detention Center near Dallas,
was sentenced to 100 years in prison, the maximum punishment.
The seven others sentenced in Fort Worth courtrooms received prison terms ranging from 30 to 70 years.
“I am livid,” said Lydia Koza, whose wife, Autumn Hill, was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
“The government wants to take her entire life away because she attended a protest. Nobody died.”
            U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor,
one of two judges overseeing the proceedings, said what happened wasn’t a protest but “an assault on democracy.”
All but one of the eight defendants sentenced Tuesday were convicted on terrorism charges.

"Madison Square Garden compiled a list of activists who have publicly criticized the venue’s use of facial recognition technology, putting their tweets and comments into a document that was then accessible to other people inside the company, 404 Media has found.

The news shows that MSG, operated by Jim Dolan who has garnered a reputation for being pernicious against his perceived enemies, is not only deploying controversial facial recognition technology but keeping track of specific people who take issue with it. The document was included in a 45GB cache of data hackers stole from MSG and posted online this month, which 404 Media then downloaded and reviewed.

“The wake of a data breach would be a good time for Madison Square Garden to stop subjecting its patrons to biometric surveillance,” Adam Schwartz, privacy litigation director at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and one of the people included in the document, told 404 Media."

"Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) appears to be purchasing records related to immigrants’ tax identifiers from a data broker, potentially skirting a court order that banned ICE from sourcing such information, according to Senator Ron Wyden and government procurement records reviewed by 404 Media.

The contract, worth nearly $10 million, is related to ITINs, or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers, which is the identifier many undocumented people use to file their taxes rather than a Social Security number (SSN).

“It looks for all the world like Trump is trying to skirt the law and a court order to fuel his mass-deportation campaign,” Senator Wyden told 404 Media in an emailed statement after reviewing the procurement records. “A court has already struck down an agreement between the IRS and Homeland Security to illegally share ITINs and other personal information.

A contract to buy that same information from private data brokers is a clear end-around both taxpayer privacy laws and a court order.”"

They also have targeted people with work permits, asylum seekers, permanent residents (people holding “green cards”), naturalized citizens, and even citizens by birth. ICE has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on surveillance technology to spy on anyone—and potentially everyone—in the United States. It can be hard to imagine how to defend oneself against such an overwhelming force.
