I enjoy exploring ruins, old mines, old rail lines, and abandoned buildings.
I enjoy browsing thrift stores, junk shops, and flea markets.
So when I found an abandoned thrift store in an abandoned building in a larger complex of an abandoned junk yard I was in hillbilly heaven.
Today they had a Sony Data Discman EBXA electronic book reader. With a disc in it! Sadly the display was toast.
Another thing they had was the Casio Super Picky Talk, a tamagochi-style pet game. Sadly again with a toast display. The second photo is the packaging from an online image search showing what it would have looked like if it worked. I wonder if a screen could be salvaged from a contemporary Casio graphing calculator?
My HARD OFF Megathread!
HARD OFF is my favorite store ever. It’s a Japanese chain of tech thrift stores that will buy your junk and resell it. There’s also OFF HOUSE (clothes/household items), the confusingly unrelated BOOK OFF (used books, games and other media), LIQUOR OFF, etc
I’ll start off by posting some overview photos of what kind of stuff you can find there, and then start following up whenever I find something interesting
Let’s go!
This Panasonic Movie Printer NV-MP1 looks cool! Print screenshots from movies!
Also really love the look of this VHD player. Where did all the red electronics go?
Remember when your mom said watching TV that close would ruin your eyes? Well someone made a product to automatically shut the TV off if you sat too close to the TV!
I feel like these speakers were modified by the previous owner.. just a feeling…
