Fediverse do your thing: I’m looking for a distro to boot off a usb key, either full install or “live system”. Persistence is a requirement for the latter.

Last time I did this, it was regular Debian stable installed and booted off the usb key but read/write cycles killed the device after some use.

I’m ok-ish doing Debian-on-usb again but also open to alternatives.

Apparently, this tool basically automatically detects the game it's run under, then makes it super easy to install native source ports (specifically older games) to give you a better experienec than you would normally get running under Proton.

So my office workstation is taking an inordinate time to boot and I'm trying to figure out wtf is going on.

                                                systemd-analyze tells me:
                                                Startup finished in 51.414s (firmware) + 8.036s (loader) + 976ms (kernel) + 1min 7.909s (initrd) + 14.737s (userspace) = 2min 23.074s

And that initrd time seems insane. Looking at the systemd-analyze plot, all of the devices take an insane amount of time. I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

Governments aren't trying to break VPN encryption. They're trying to detect that you're using a VPN in the first place. That's why the real battle has shifted from encryption to obfuscation.

In this deep dive, I explain:
                                                      • Why age verification laws are putting VPNs in the spotlight
                                                      • How Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) actually identifies VPN traffic
                                                      • Why WireGuard and OpenVPN are fingerprintable
                                                      • How Shadowsocks evolved into VLESS + REALITY + XTLS Vision + uTLS
                                                      • Why this protocol stack is becoming the gold standard for censorship resistance

If you've ever wondered how modern VPNs stay one step ahead of DPI, this is for you.

In the end, they were all leaning towards maximizing and minimizing Windows, and it seems part of that success was that they could use LLMs to quickly solve problems they ran into.

To me, it was a positive story making of tools making easier to switch to Linux.
