soc.octade.net is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.

This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.

        Sorry for the substack link, but this is unique information. The author is a library, particularly ebook/audiobook advocate, and got to interview the CEO of OverDrive, the company that runs Libby the library app and serves as a middleman between libraries and big publishers. If you want to be more informed about why your library pays 3 - 4 times as much as you do for an ebook or audiobook, it's essential reading. Several states are passing laws trying to improve the situation, but more concerted, widespread action is needed.

                Post by ingathewriter A lady came into the library yesterday and asked if we had a particular book. I helped her find it and she was super happy. Her grandson is 12 and lives a plane ride away so she has started reading whatever book he's reading and then they have a weekly FaceTime where they discuss it. I just thought that was such a nice way to stay connected to a kid who lives far away.
