"Two former prime ministers, former heads of all the Israeli security services, former judges, a Nobel laureate and the country’s most revered living novelist were among the signatories to a “final warning” over violence against Palestinians.

They demanded immediate action to “eradicate Jewish terrorism”, cataloguing years of attacks – including murder, sexual assault, theft, arson and desecration of the dead – by civilian and military perpetrators who acted with “almost complete impunity”.

The campaign of extreme violence against Palestinians broke Israeli and international law, put Israel’s security at risk, isolated the country internationally and fuelled antisemitism around the world, they said.

“This letter is a wake-up call and a final warning: We demand that you take all necessary measures to immediately eradicate Jewish terrorism that has been prevalent in Judea and Samaria in recent years,” the letter said, using an Israeli term for the occupied West Bank.

More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the US-brokered ceasefire was announced in October, exposing the gap between promises of calm and the reality on the ground. Israeli attacks continued across the besieged strip, claiming at least 1,005 Palestinian lives.

Israel has also expanded its occupation in Gaza to 64% of the Strip, while displacement, destruction, and forced evacuations persist. The anticipated second phase of the agreement, which was supposed to include an Israeli withdrawal, has yet to materialize.

The humanitarian crisis continues to worsen. Gaza’s healthcare system remains on the brink of collapse, with only 20 of 37 hospitals partially functioning and no fully operational hospital remaining. Aid access remains severely restricted, reconstruction has not begun, and nearly 1.9 million Palestinians remain displaced.

Since the start of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed, while vast areas of the Strip have been reduced to rubble.

UN: “Palestinians face systematic abuse by #Israel settlers and #Hamas alike”

The report warned that settler attacks continue to rise in the West Bank, with at least seven Palestinians killed and 832 injured last year – a 130 per cent increase over 2024.

In Gaza, the Commission identified 249 cases of executions and severe physical violence between 2024 and 2025, with at least 108 deaths and 384 injured.

“These cases involved executions, kneecapping, bone-breaking with metal pipes or cement bricks and beatings and were framed by the perpetrators as punishments for alleged collaboration with Israel, looting humanitarian aid, theft, drug-related offences or affiliations with internal rivals,” the report said.

Hamas-affiliated forces were involved in at least 60 of the incidents, including two public executions of 11 men. The investigators said these acts amount to the war crimes of murder and torture, and abuses of international human rights and humanitarian law.
