Google's getting downright surly that I'm not interested in sharing my information with them. Isn't "Say yes or I'll just keep asking you every three days until you do." Considered stalker level behavior?

#Tech isn't progress any more... [SENSITIVE CONTENT]

IT'S WORSE TODAY because of who owns / runs it and how they do things and what they do behind out backs and who else is in with them.

TECH PROGRESS IS MORE OF A LIE TODAY because of WHO owns the tech and what they do behind our back...

"Because the of human is a perpetuated by charlatans."

(i.e.) TECH PROGRESS IS LESS USEFUL TODAY because of the behind it, who own the tech and do all sorts with it or the power gained by its success.

    🇺🇸 IS 🇺🇸
    🇺🇸 (a lot of it ) 🇺🇸

IT'S NOT JUST "TECH" AS A TOOL
    LIKE (INSTEAD OF )

    - IT'S WHO'S BEHIND ZOOM AND OWNS IT AS A SPACE and WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH THE DATA.! tools included and whatever you type into.

The situation with regards to Nova and Branch are mind blowing to me in a way.

What I'm referring to here is the fact that it's been 13 months(yesterday) since I got laid off from Branch/Nova after having spent the previous 9 years working for them.

When that huge layoff happening, and I was included with 220+ others who also lost their jobs, I was included in several news articles around the internet because of it. Mainly because I was the publicly facing person for Nova in a lot of ways for a lot of years, even though Kevin did all the work so to speak.

Now, again, 13 months later, Kevin leaves Branch and Nova, and yet I'm the one who gets included in several different news articles around the internet and have various news reporters reaching out to me to get my comments on the situation.

While it's cool and flattering, this is NOT about me in any way at all. This is about trying my hardest and my best to bring attention to the situation in hopes that Branch will do the right thing and open source Nova Launcher and give it back to the community, which is where it belongs!

Saturn's B Ring, for Harp and Drums (Excerpt)

SYSTEM Sounds converted the highest resolution color image of Saturn's rings into music. The brightness of each pixel is used to control the harp notes and drum sounds as well as their intensity. The notes correspond to the first 13 notes of the harmonic series. The Earth Always Hums: Infragravity waves and current-generated noise and the microseisms (acceleration x6000)

Left: The spectrogram of the infragravity waves and current-generated noise (the time-variable broad bright spots on the left) and the ocean microseisms (the continuous band at higher frequencies, on the right of the spectrogram). The spectrogram shows the signal strength—or how loud it is—over time and at different frequencies. Labels and scales appear periodically. One of the horizontal scales at bottom left shows the original period of the signal in seconds. This signal is inaudible to the human ear. The recording has been accelerated by a factor of 6000, bringing all the signals into the audible range. The frequency scale (bottom left) marks the frequency (Hz) of the transformed signal that we hear. Right: the 3D visualization of the sound.

This stereo track is a rendering of the 3 components of the motion of the seafloor at a 3.9 km depth, southwest of Ireland. The seismograms were recorded on 1-19 April, 2020, by the ocean-bottom seismic station Brian of the SEA-SEIS network.

Building the people up, on top of Tech... [SENSITIVE CONTENT]

@garyackerman This is a good post for Mastodon or Twitter because "Social presence isn’t community." is a good quote here by .

Any and people that aren't really building actively, with people daily, and personally, remains "just another platform" or "slightly better" version of and *never* quite a movement that way with people towards training to respect each other / learning what that means / dedicating themselves more than distracting themselves via and the same imported stuff elsewhere / .

The point is: rather than people making personal things and improve or work together / merge things, they would rather you are over there and they here... never to question themselves or be questioned by others towards or similar things which finger can be put on... if willing to .

So the is there but not the will of people building *each other up* (not waiting for or another magic way, just to do it themselves ).

Many DO NOT want to do much of this building personally or being responsible (even with what they and ) and that is almost the why we have or others doing for us exist because FRANKLY we can't make (with anyone!) and can't maintain anything more than an aesthetic on or offline (you would think it's easier online even to pretend since it's more distant). And job and colleagues are often not deep friends or can't be under contract, so even they can come and go as the work does! If you ever leave your work or made redundant you'll soon realise this and what "friend: can mean in modern day disposable life.

Basic for the way - but it's not on the agenda for most - to make the world less about strangers and more about work with them. Friends eventually and each at their own definition I think is possible.

                  The 2012 Indian Ocean earthquakes

A magnitude 8.6 (Mw) undersea earthquake struck south of the Indonesian province Aceh on 11 April, 2012, at 15:38 local time, followed by a magnitude 8.2 aftershock 2 hours later. These large earthquakes were produced by horizontal slip on the undersea faults. Thanks to the lack of vertical movement of the seafloor, no tsunamis were generated.

The rich sound in this stereo track comes from a combination of 3-component seismograms recorded by all the stations of Ireland Array, recording across Ireland. The stronger main event is followed by a similarly structured sequence of waves of the main aftershock. The recording is accelerated by a factor of 9600, which increases the frequency of the signal by the same factor and brings it into the audible frequency range. The recording is then “stretched” by a factor of 80, so that the different waves can be distinguished in time and heard clearly.

Why rewriting Emacs is hard,” by @kana

Yes it is, I can tell you from experience. Of course, I was never under any illusion that it would be easy.

@kana , a.k.a. “Gudzpoz,” wrote a blog post which was shared on Lobste.rs, and they kindly mention my own Emacs clone Schemacs, though they refer to the old name of it “Gypsum” because they are citing my EmacsConf 2024 presentation done before the name changed.

It is a pretty good post going over some of the odd details about how Emacs edits text, e.g. the character range is from 0x0 to 0x3FFFFFF rather than the Unicode standard range from 0x0 to 0x10FFFF, issues with using a gap buffer as opposed to a “rope” data structure, attaching metadata (text properties) to strings to render different colors and faces, and issues with Emacs’s own unique flavor of regular expressions in which the \= symbol indicates matching on the point in the buffer. (I did not know about that last one!)

Apparently, they know these things because they are also working on their own clone of Emacs in Java for the JVM called Juicemacs (the name “Juice” upholding the theme of Java-based applications being named after drinks), and I deduce that their approach is to read through the Emacs C source code to ensure better compatibility. This is now the fourth modern Emacs+EmacsLisp clone that is still under active development that I know of, fascinating work!

My approach is to clone Emacs well enough to get it to pass regression tests, and I don’t read the C source code, I do black-box testing (because those tests become regression tests for my own source code).

Also, the goal with the Schemacs project is more to provide a Scheme-based Emacs that is backward-compatible with GNU Emacs. You use Schemacs because you want to program it in Scheme, not Emacs Lisp, but Emacs Lisp is there for you so you can still use your Emacs config. As a result, I will ignore a lot of these fussy details of the GNU Emacs implementation unless it is going to prevent regression tests from passing.

                                            🧵 2/2

Here's what Kling Video 2.1 generated, based on two photographs of my wife at the beach, observed by a seagull (see the photos in the previous thread post).

I didn't add a prompt, just pressed the Generate button after uploading the images. The video starts with one photo, and ends with the other. There's audio too…

The new 2.1 version of Kling Video allows you to generate a video from one image to another.

I entered these two photos I made of my wife with a seagull at the beach, and didn't add a prompt, just pressed the Generate button. The resulting video follows in the next post…

One of my first-ever commercial jobs, in 1990…

Pixel art of a Philips P3348 386 SX PC for a large screen at a former annual technology fair in the Netherlands called Firato.

I pixeled this in Deluxe Paint ("DPaint") on an Amiga, in 16-color high-resolution mode, 640 pixels wide. 🙂
