It released a statement noting that the unnamed victim in the #Epstein email who “spent hours” with #Trump at Epstein’s house was #VirginiaGiuffre, who “repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever.”

The #legislation does include some caveats. The #DOJ would not be required to alert a senator that their records were sought if the lawmaker was the target of the investigation, allowing a federal judge to delay any such notification requirements.
The legislation comes as #Trump has also sought compensation from the DOJ related to his own legal troubles, asking for a $230 million settlement related to the investigation conducted by Robert Mueller & from Smith’s classified documents probe.

Perhaps this revolutionary new policy—which #CivilLiberties groups would probably support—should be the law. “The Senators may not like being treated like the rest of America, but these phone-record subpoenas & non-disclosure orders are routine in grand jury investigations at the state & federal level. No one has an absolute right to be notified that their call records have been subpoenaed, much less the right to a million bucks if it happens. This provision would not give any Americans other than US Senators these rights,” #JamieRaskin said.

Jack Smith sought the phone records of 8 senators as well as 1 member of the House during his investigation into #Jan6, including those known to have spoken to #Trump during the #insurrection.
Rep #JamieRaskin (D-MD) called the provision “one of the most blatantly #corrupt provisions for political self-dealing & the plunder of public resources ever proposed in #Congress.”
The provision, which is retroactive to 2022, only applies to members of the #Senate & would allow them to sue for $500,000 if data was sought without their being notified, as well as once it was obtained.
“That’s a cool one million per Senator,” Raskin said in a stmnt.

As The Guardian & The Oregonian/OregonLive have reported, #FoxNews on Sept 4 used footage from the 2020 protests after the police killing of #GeorgeFloyd & said it was from 2025. Propublica found 2 clear cases from that night as well as 1 that seemed to match a scene filmed at a key site of the 2020 protests. Fox also “mislabeled” 2 other dates of actions shown on screen, & 1 broadcast implied that a protest from elsewhere was happening in Portland.

The review found that the “news” network repeatedly provided a “misleading” picture of what was happening in #Portland.
#Trump didn’t say which channel he watched; he said at one point he saw something “today” & at another “last night.”
The evening before, on Sept 4, #FoxNews aired a 2½ minute segment spotlighting protests outside an #ICE field office in #Portland. Similar footage aired the morning of Trump’s remarks. The author said he declined the request but nevertheless began interviewing the #SexOffender & conducted about 100 hours of interviews with Epstein. He told Washington Monthly earlier this year that Epstein became a source as he was writing his books on #Trump, which began with the 2018 tell-all “Fire and Fury.”
