A newly revealed exploit called “YellowKey” may let attackers bypass BitLocker encryption on Windows 11 and Windows Server systems using only a USB stick and a simple reboot trick. The researcher who disclosed it says the flaw is so severe, and so oddly specific to newer Windows versions, that they suspect it could be an intentional backdoor. Windows 10 does not appear to be affected.

CCIA urged Delaware lawmakers to reject provisions that would expand “sensitive data” definitions beyond practical necessity, impose constitutionally questionable compelled speech mandates, and create burdensome disclosure requirements that add compliance costs without meaningfully improving consumer privacy.

There are several reasons why, but major are:

cables used to detect earthquakes may also be able to eavesdrop on nearby conversations. Researchers reported last week at the European Geosciences Union meeting that distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) can accurately capture the faint vibrations of human speech.

The effect was limited: buried cables and straight fiber lines recorded speech poorly. Still, researchers say the findings highlight unexpected privacy risks as DAS use expands.
