This is something that's actually forbidden in our country

companies may not call random numbers just to spam them.

To compensate for that luxury, the main internet and POTS provider let's companies pay them to spam us with SMS!

This is also disallowed by law but no one seems to bother to file a class action suit against this company

Those spam SMS you can easily block though

            Question to you.

What is a good email solution for non-profits/community groups in the United States?

            Base Requirements:
            - Emails that use our domain name.
            - Allows individual email accounts for users (roughly 20 to 50).
            - Allows email aliases / groups to where emailing one email delivers to multiple users (eg info@domain.ex goes to three specific people or foodrescue@domain.ex goes to those working on the food rescue side, etc)

            Ideal requirements:
            - Cheap or free
            - Privacy / security oriented
            - Managed (I don't like the idea of hosting our own email server for example)

Those ideal requirements have some contradiction in it, of course.

So high level, I've looked into:
            - Google
            - Microsoft
            - Proton Mail
            - Tutanota
            - Mailbox org
            - Startmail

Here is the quick overview for those:

            Google:
            - https(slash)www.google(dot)com/nonprofits/offerings/workspace/#!#workspace-pricing
            - Cost: Free
            - Con: They actively scan and read all emails. So we become the product.
            - Pro: They are used by many non-profits and are well liked from a usability standpoint

            Microsoft:
            - https(slash)www.microsoft(dot)com/en-us/microsoft-365/business/nonprofit-plans-and-pricing
            - Cost: $5.50 per user
            - Con: They actively scan and read all emails
            - Pro: They have a more robust app offering.
(I don't think we need this level of IT for our group though)

            Proton Mail for Non-Profits:
            - proton.me/business/plans#plans
            - Cost: 20% off Business Costs. If we just went with email, it'd be about $5.60 per user per month
            - Pro: They are private and secure and can't read emails
            - Con: Much less app support but we really just need email for this

Tutanota does not offer non-profit discounts within the US - So it's a similar offering as Proton Mail for about three dollars more per month.

Startmail is also similar in price point and features as Proton and Tutanota

Mailbox(dot)org may be ideal in this space as it's only $1 per user per month. I have to check and see if we can use a custom domain, etc.

Google is free... which matters. You are the product. Also folks know it - the UI is good. Making a cost benefit analysis here, I have to bring up the "we don't have anything to hide" sort of thing. As an individual, that doesn't fly - right. But as a community group / potential non-profit, we are already transparent. None of our communications contain sensitive information. And we have a lot of folks coming in and out as it is.

So, what would the threat scenario around an org using Google for email be?

            Any other ideas?

Just so you know, using an AI notetaker during a meeting without priorly asking for consent from all participants before starting it breaches many if not most privacy laws around the world.

In certain cases, it can even breach two-party consent laws, and be a criminal act.

Ideally, never use these privacy-invasive tools ever. But if you do use them, you must ask for everyone's consent first, and respect their choice fully if they refuse to be recorded.

There was no ‘Opt Out’ or ‘Decline’ options available and the message could not be removed from the screen (making reading anything there laborious and frustrating.

Second, the privacy policy meant they collected a lot of personal information, browsing information as well as device info. I thought it

Age Verification is Now Mutating into General ID

Surveillance creep is once again striking in the age verification debate. This is happening at the FCC this time.

"Evelyn Austin, chair of digital rights organisation Bits of Freedom, said it is “a bit disappointing” that a lawyer who previously represented major tech companies will now lead the Dutch privacy watchdog overseeing some of those same firms. She described the appointment as “very awkward” and “a highly unusual choice.”

Austin doubts whether Potjewijd can act credibly against such companies. “You could say that Potjewijd may have seen the light and is now committed to the right cause. But as chair, you have the important task of gaining the trust of citizens and other regulators. To do that, you need to carry out your work in a credible and authentic way. I strongly question how credible he can be when he sits down with organisations he previously faced in court.”

According to Austin, there is no doubt that Potjewijd knows the field well. “He has substantive expertise, because for years he helped companies look for ways to push and cross the boundaries of privacy rules.” That is why Bits of Freedom is wary. “But of course he still has to prove himself. The only thing that matters is that he achieves results, shows that his background does not matter, and uses his expertise in the public interest. But he is already starting 1-0 behind.”

                                                      Does someone use wstunnel?

Documentation says "Do not rely on wstunnel to protect your privacy, if it is one of your concerns, you should only forwards traffic that is already secure by design (ie: https or vpn traffic)".

Well, I use Wireguard, but I have no idea on how to get Wireguard working with this on Android because if you try to use wstunnel-gui-android then it just creates a SOCKS5 proxy server and WG Tunnel cannot connect to a SOCKS5 proxy. Is the only solution to use Termux? (Which is annoying to use on mobile, which is the main device I want to use a VPN connection in the first place!)
