You should pick up a wee bit of Persian sometime...

Everyday common phrases like "thanks (for bringing xyz)" are rendered in needlessly flowery poetic phrases like, "I hope your hand doesn't hurt," or "I hope you're not tired,"

...but ironically, they're still everyday common phrases in terms of thought and intent. It's the linguistic version of writing bullet points to translate into paragraphs by CrapGPT for an email, which will be translated back into bullet points by CrapGPT for the recipient. 😂

But I will give (ostensibly) my people credit for actually loving #poetry a whole lot. In social gatherings you might see random old men quoting poetry (you'll recognize the beautiful poetic cadence, even if you don't understand a word, like me) and they/we even do something like "bible roulette" where someone will ask a long-dead poet for wisdom, open a huge tome of poetry to a random page, and read it aloud. My mom used to do that for me. 😅
