Random question for the fediverse... Have a relative with a SimpliSafe system (old), just door sensors and an alarm. Might need a refresh. Thoughts on open/non subscription replacements? General thoughts? (aside from the fact that security companies seem to prey on little old ladies... when all they do is call the cops if an alarm goes off. 🤨 ) Main requirement is detecting if a door opens and sounding an alarm if nobody hits a keypad or remote. Decontaminated the shed after a rat got in (just visiting, thankfully, did not set up shop). I think it was attracted by the hot pepper plants I had tucked in there, plus a frame of beeswax my son had stuck in there (high in nutrients...). Pulled out the "recycled tarp" (ie very large printed banner) I purchased for a rainy day to cut into smaller pieces to cover things out here, and I note that the piece on my wood pile facing the hostile neighbor says "MARIJUANA NOW" on it. (turned it over to the non-printed side, LOL... they once called the cops on me because they smelled marijuana. Not even smoking it, I had snagged some free wood which had apparently been used for holding up someone's marijuana growing table, LOL).
