Just upgraded for 26. The UI reminds me of the period around 2002 when teenagers would create 'cool' GNOME and KDE themes with zero reference to usability. Except with more transparency. So like some of the early Compiz stuff, which was far more about 'the technology allows this' than wondering whether anyone would actually want it.

Safari windows are all totally different colours based on the background colour for the page. And they've lost the app icon in the bar (you know, the thing that's really important for Mac apps because it's the file proxy that lets you do direct manipulation?), so recognising them is hard.

It's a mess. Apple needs to seriously think about how they ever promoted people to leadership rôles the UI group when they were so clearly unqualified.

EDIT: People always complain about new macOS / OS X. I've been using OS X since 10.1, and written two books about Cocoa programming. I assumed the complaints were overblown. If anything, they're understated. It's so bad in a bunch of totally avoidable rookie errors that anyone who has done one undergraduate HCI course would know to avoid.

      Old school way that used to work, run an x-windows server on client side, ssh -Y user@host application

        Running out of disk space on your Linux, macOS, BSD, or Unix-like OS? Or perhaps you're hitting the classic disk quota limits set by your sysadmin? Fear not. Run `du -sh * | sort -h` command to get a sorted list of your directory sizes so you can remove or compress unwanted files. Here is another useful shell alias:
        ```
        alias ducks='du -cks -- * | sort -rn | head'
              Ya'll know I talk about Linux a lot. Some of you may not have a clue what I am talking about. Linux is a operating system that is free and replaces Windows, ChromeOS or MacOS. Linux runs great on older hardware. If you have a machine that is running slow or is no longer receiving security updates, you can replace the operating system with Linux. No need to buy a new machine.
              There are a lot of variations of Linux, to point that it can get overwhelming which one to choose. Let me give you a starting point.
              If you are new to Linux, I recommend trying these variations. These links will let you 'test drive' a Linux operating system to find which you like best. If you find one you like, I'll help you install it. If you install it and hate it, you can always try a different one.
              There are several other variations listed at #^https://distrosea.com/ Go ahead and try some of them! Feel free to comment with your favorites or your best suggestion for new Linux users!
              *keep in mind, you are testing an operating system in a browser. It's going to seem a little slow or laggy, but it has been my experience with every Linux variation I have installed, that they all run smoother and faster than Windows. Linux is a lighter operating system and doesn't consume all of the resources like Microsoft Windows does.
                                            Help, I need a code signing certificate that won't bankrupt me.
                                            Three years ago, I paid $100 for a three-year code signing certificate. I've signed all my open-source projects' releases with it. Now that it's renewal time, Certera (SignMyCode.com) wants almost $700 for the same three-year certificate (excluding the mandatory HSM purchase, which I am totally on board with).
                                            I write silly C and PowerShell code, and I timestamp my signatures so that they're perpetually valid. My PowerShell Gallery stuff, as well as binaries of aprs-weather-submit on Windows and macOS, are all signed and hashed (but not notarized by Apple, because that's another $99 a year for something that feels done unless Bob Bruninga's followers are thinking about APRS 2.0).
                                            If I can't find a solution, anything I write or update in the future will have to be released as unsigned unless I half-ass something (like the Notepad++ developer using self-signed certs -- semi-dangerously clever). $100 every three years, fine. $700 every three years, and I'll do it if my three fans click my Buy Me A Coffee link over and over.
                                            Is there any CA out there that will offer open-source, not-for-profit developers like me a chance to get globally-trusted code signing certificates? I don't think SigStore ever took off (sadly), and even if it did, I don't think it's part of the Microsoft Authenticode program.
                                              I am trying to do a transcription of a meeting from last week, and every time I say a word that is something even remotely similar to the name of someone I have in my contacts, voice dictation will correct what I said to that name.
                                              This also happens when I text, when I email -- any time I use voice dictation, and I use voice dictation a fuck ton.
                                              It is a bug, not a feature, and it is something that has happened the entire time that I have had an iPhone -- for 11 fucking years.
                                              It makes my work so much more fucking difficult when I say the word "cats" and it corrects it to Katz.
                                              Or when it randomly decides that it is going to AutoCorrect (see?!) the word "Time" to --- see?! It did it, with a capital fucking T, because I have ONE contact in my phone that has that word in it with a capital T.
                                              I am ready to fucking go back to carbon paper and Typewriters and fucking carrier pigeons at this point.
                                              You see how it capitalized Typewriters? It did that because I've got entries in my phone where that word is capitalized in my contacts.
                                              I hate this. I hate this so goddamn fucking much, and it is making my transcription work so much more goddamned fucking difficult!
                                              If there are any tech people out there who can tell me how to fucking disable this bug, not a feature, I will kiss your fucking toes and make you dinner for a goddamn year.
                                              The only option I feel I have is Nuking (why the fuck did it capitalize that?) my fucking contacts.
                                              Or else, going through every single goddamn one of them, and decapitalizing *every single fucking entry*.
                                              That seems to be the only goddamn motherfucking thing I could do to stop this.
                                                    Didn’t think I’d do it, but I did: I switched from Firefox to Safari.
                                                    It’s mostly due to compatibility — I’ve had all kinds of problems with Firefox not working right on some sites. But it’s also nice to be able to easily access all tabs on all devices from my desktop or laptop Mac.
                                                    The one thing I don’t like: the ads. Looks like I’ll need to invest in an ad blocker. Does anyone have experience with ad blocker extensions on ?
