Why magic users should never use an LLM.

By @davidrevoy

A comic in four panels:

Panel 1. The gothic sorceress, dressed in dark, flowing robes, stands in the middle of a desolated land. She gazes at the colorful mechanical parrot flying near her shoulder: the Avian Intelligent Parrot. The sorceress asks with a hint of curiosity.

Gothic sorceress: "Hey, Avian Intelligence, what's the incantation for summoning a fireball?"
AI Parrot: ":sparkle emoji: The correct incantation for a fireball is "IgnisMe"."

Panel 2. The gothic sorceress cracks a wicked smile, her eyes shining with anticipation as she raises her hands in front of her, fingers spread and ready to cast.

Gothic sorceress: "Alright, let's give it a shot... IgnisMe!"

Panel 2(small insert in previous panel). Only the eyes of the gothic sorceress are visible in a large flame.

Gothic sorceress: "?!!"

Panel 3. The gothic sorceress is burnt, her face contorted in a mix of shock, anger, and pain. Flames and smoke dance around her, her dark robes burnt and tattered, revealing exposed parts of her anatomy.

Gothic sorceress: "You #*$%@& bird! You gave me a self-immolation spell instead of a fireball spell!"

Panel 4. As the sorceress facepalms, the Avian Intelligent parrot replies with stoicism.

AI Parrot: ":sparkle emoji: You're absolutely right! The correct incantation for a fireball is "PyroBolus"."

admits it will be "increasing lethality" for Defense
      Department

QUERY: Will Google make public the number of people Google helps to murder via their partnership with Hegseth and the defense department for more efficient warfare and killing?

      GEMINI:
The information available indicates a recent partnership between Google and the Department of Defense (referred to as the "War Department" by Secretary Pete Hegseth in the search results) to deploy Google's **Gemini for Government** AI model on a new platform called **GenAI.mil**.

      * **Purpose of the Partnership:** The primary stated purpose is to
increase efficiency, productivity, and lethality within the Department
of War by using the AI for tasks like deep research, formatting
documents, and analyzing video or imagery at unprecedented speed. Secretary Hegseth explicitly marketed the platform as a way to make the fighting force **"more lethal than ever before"**.

Hey there! Well, if I ever complained about someone else hijacking one of my threads, that would SERIOUSLY be "the quacta calling the stifling slimy" to borrow a phrase from #StarWars.

I have used Remmina in the past, but I currently use KRDC for my #VNC needs.

But the issue raised in the original post was searching for a remote desktop solution that worked over the internet without the need of a local LAN connection, or some kind of VPN or tailscale.

I think flatpak definitely has its place, and I like the fact that it's more isolated by default than native packages. I think running a super-stable distro like Debian and using flatpak to get up-to-date application packages is a great solution, the best of both worlds.

As far as appimage goes, I think it's a nice way to package binaries, but lacks a method to stay up-to-date, and lacks isolation/containerization (although that part can definitely be hacked together).

#Lagrange is sweet! Very pretty #Gemini client, and the config is pretty flexible such that you can do a lot of keyboard-navigation if you tweak it.

You know, I was just thinking of Ubuntu yesterday. I had run Kubuntu on my laptop a little while ago and it was... fine? I did manually remove snap, though. Because if Canonical wanted to doggedly maintain one of their in-house-developed solutions, I rather would have wished that it had been Ubuntu Touch (which people needed), not snap. I know UBPorts is a thing, of course.

If you run a website, or an online business, here is a small tip that will save you money and help to avoid the need to spend money on Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).

You don't need "SEO for AI" or GEO. Chatbots like and are using APIs of popular search engines likes Bing API, Google Search API and others.

This means that you don't need to spend more money on GEO. If you follow good practices about running a and optimizing it for search engines, you can be sure that this will also work for driving traffic from chatbots.

And the most important part: don't forget about creating high-quality that is valuable for visitors of your website. If the content is purely created for and inauthentic, then you may have issues with making people to come back to visit your website again. Those who read your content are humans and it's in the human's nature to value authenticity.

Looks like, the gemini.filter.dpi file contains some lines, which works well with GNU sed/awk but breaks with the same BSD utils:

                                    1) according to man 7 re_format, the "\s" can't be used to specify the space character class. Instead of it the "[:space:]" should be used.

                                    2) The forward slash inside the awk's group should be escaped.

It is interesting that both escaped and non-escaped versions works the same way with the GNU awk :drgn_think:

                                    3) Added two options for ansi2html to avoid unwanted second header's content drawn on the page. And to have properly formatted and clickable links in the browser.
