Wow. Wenn dieser #Anthropic-Vergleich Schule macht, können sich Autorinnen und Autoren weltweit auf saftige Nachzahlungen freuen. Es gibt ja auch noch OpenAI, Google, Meta ….
"Large language models can’t play chess at all. They make illegal moves. They’re not very good. But what they do do is: They have a vast amount of data. If you have more data, you have a more representative something-or-other. So, like, if you take a poll of voters, the more voters you have, the more accurate the poll is. So they have a very large sample of human writing—in fact, the entire internet. And they have a whole bunch of data that they’ve transcribed from video and so forth. So they have more than all of the written text in the internet. That’s an insane amount of data. And what they’re doing every time they answer a question is they’re trying to approximate what was said in this context before. They don’t have a deep understanding of the context. They just have the words. They don’t really understand what’s going on, but that deep pile of data allows them to present an illusion of intelligence. I wouldn’t actually call it intelligence. It does depend on what your definition of the term is, but what I would say is it’s still brute force.
So let me come back to chess for a second. If you ask a large language model, even a recent one, to play chess, it will often make illegal moves. That’s something that a six-year-old child won’t do."
@jik Can I send them my CV because I've been looking for a job and I'd enjoy working with AI since much of my research lately is on AI privacy and security and ethical considerations that a startup working with that technology might find valuable.
I think this tech could be designed in much better ways and I have a frank lloyd wright -ish philosophy that all technology should be in alignment with the environment and we should be living within the earth rather than conquering it.
It’s a bit worrying that governments and businesses are sinking billions into #AI and the result is basically a few low value tasks like emails dashed off…it messes up more complex tasks involving excel and power point, so users spend the time they gained on emails fixing their spreadsheets.
And it hallucinates for over a fifth of users.
This was the finding of a trial by the UK Department for Trade and Business…

"Claude’s update relies on a striking pop-up with a large, black "Accept" button. The data sharing toggle is tucked away, switched on by default, and framed positively ("You can help..."). A faint "Not now" button and hard-to-find instructions on changing the setting later complete the manipulative design.
These interface tricks, known as dark patterns, are considered unlawful under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and by the European Court of Justice when used to obtain consent for data processing. Pre-checked boxes do not count as valid consent under these rules.
The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has also stressed in its guidelines on deceptive design patterns that consent must be freely given, informed, and unambiguous. Claude’s current design clearly fails to meet these standards, making it likely that Anthropic will soon draw the attention of privacy regulators."

There's no reason for even the most basic #CLI tool to not offer a rudimentary configuration screen that even #lynx [#LynxBrowser] has...
Espechally when there are way easier #config file formats that are actually human-readable.
@taatm @emory Imma gonna tell a little story. A story about how I found my inner TechnoBS Hype Detector.
I remember when my family got a microwave in the late 1970s. It was big. It had woodgrain. It was FABULOUS.
It came with accessories that we NEVER get today...probes and other fancy things. Mum got books on how to cook ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in the microwave. It was the FUTURE and it made conventional ovens OBSOLETE.
Until it didn't.
Turns out microwaves are shit at cooking potroasts and "roast" chickens. Yes they cook them 75% faster using 90% less energy bla bla...but the results SUCK. First of all even if it takes 20-25 minutes instead of like an hour and a half in the oven, with the oven you just put it on and it cooks, and with the microwave it was a bunch of faffing about every 5 minutes, or a bunch of extra pre and post cooking prep.
Second of all it yields a soggy rubber mess.
Whatever tricks for "browning" or "crisping" were LAME.
@monkeyben @alan @gabrielesvelto
because the term AI has been invariably warped to mean any stupid crap someone wants to get money for, i suggest we name real genuine AI, hewing to the original concepts before the endless #enshittification, as
Weird #AI Yankovic
@ChickenPwny I just consider all "#AI" as #WastefulComputing and said acceleratoes as "#WastedSilicon" and "#ManufacturedEwasre" just like #Bitcoin - #Mining Hardware...

if you're working with #AI, have you seen this post about an #MCP server that dishes up #MITRE ATT&CK (#att7ck) framework tools and it's happily using my Obsidian vault where my intelligence hub drops off the data it collects. i'm still exploring but the possibilities are amazing.
share how you use this server if you check it out!

Google deletes net-zero pledge from sustainability website
> In June, Google’s Sustainability website proudly boasted a headline pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030. By July, that had all changed.

#infosec and #AI folk hero @danielmiessler has published an interesting post on how he's created a personal AI framework.
I've been working on the same sort of thing and have been dying to read something from him on this topic. Obviously I am an evangelist for his #fabricAI and #telos projects (telos is a critical part of my job search!)

Some people think #AGI is around the corner. 2041... or even as early as 2026. I'm not sure, but experience has taught me never to rule anything out. ;-)
What do you think? Is #AI on the cusp of human-level cognitive ability?

Just for the heck of it, I decided to try #AI to fix an addon to run in the latest #NVDA alpha. I knew exactly what was wrong with it: it was importing a module included for #Python 3.11, and new alphas of NVDA are built with Python 3.13. I gave chat GPT the addon file, with this instruction: "In the latest alphas of NVDA, NVDA is now built with Python 3.13. That means this addon won't work. Please fix it." The simple solution would be to go get the right precompiled module from pip. But I didn't know if it would even be able to figure out what a .nvda-addon file was or how to fix it. Turns out it did. It spent six minutes, unpacked the addon, did things to the python code, then gave me back a new .nvda-addon file. But instead of just getting the right version of the module, it...rewrote the entire addon to not use that module. And its rewrite included some new features, while removing some existing ones. I'm kind of both impressed that it was able to handle the entire task on its own, and baffled that it did it in the hardest possible way. It even updated the manifest file correctly. It also left commented out sections of code, and created some Python files it never wound up using for anything. You could kind of see it doing something, forgetting what it was doing, then going to do the same thing a different way, but not deleting the half-completed evidence of the first attempt it abandoned for some reason. If more and more people use AI, code is going to get really, really weird and organic, y'all.
#AI-powered weather forecasting models can deliver accurate, localized predictions at a fraction of the cost of conventional methods. This could be a game-changer for farmers in developing countries.

A man with partial paralysis was able to operate a robotic arm when he used a non-invasive brain device partially controlled by artificial intelligence (AI), a study reports1. The AI-enabled device also allowed the man to perform screen-based tasks four times better than when he used the device on its own. #AI #BCI https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-02789-z

"It's official:🚨The US now has more unemployed people than job openings for the first time since April 2021.
In July, the US had:
7.18 million job openings
7.24 million unemployed people
This is yet another crack in the labor market that illustrates how much harder it is to get a new job right now than what we've seen in a long time."
