L’installazione richiede pochi minuti.

:firefox: Firefox 149 will offer a Free built-in VPN, split Views, Tab Notes and optional AI Windows.

Mozilla has announced several major updates coming to Firefox. Starting with Firefox 149, users in the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom will be able to access a free built-in virtual private network [VPN] with a 50-gigabyte monthly data limit. The VPN will route browser traffic through a proxy, masking users IP addresses and locations for increased privacy without needing extra downloads.

⁉️Also Firefox is the first browser to ship Sanitizer API, a new web security standard that blocks attacks before they reach you [for untrusted HTML XSS vulnerabilities].⁉️

👾Alongside the VPN, Firefox 149 will introduce split view, allowing two webpages to be displayed side by side in a single window. This enables easier comparison, copying, and multitasking without constantly switching tabs.👾

Also in this release, the Smart Window feature [formerly AI Window] will offer an optional browsing assistant. Using artificial intelligence, it will provide quick definitions, article summaries, or product comparisons directly within the browser interface. Users can choose to enable or disable this feature.

Firefox 149 will introduce Tab Notes, letting users attach notes to any tab to aid with multitasking and organization.

Additionally, Firefox is debuting refreshed themes, icons and visual refinements throughout its interface. Users may also notice the appearance of Firefox’s new mascot, Kit 🦊.

Sam Bent reports the White House app v47.0.1 requests 26 Android permissions, including precise location, biometric authentication, storage changes, startup, overlay, and Wi-Fi access, and embeds 3 trackers including Huawei Mobile Services Core. The piece also says the app includes an ICE tip line link and a "Text the President" feature that prefills "Greatest President Ever!" while collecting contact details. More broadly, the article compares permissions and trackers across U.S. government apps including FEMA, myFBI Dashboard, IRS2Go, and CBP Mobile Passport Control and argues many functions could be delivered via the web instead of mobile apps.

So what should we do about the "age verfication" (meaning our actual ID/photo verification) issue, which will probably eventually be required to access all or most of the traditional internet.

Seems like we need to make a separate internet with its own separate protocols for those who don't want to submit to it and thus will lose access to the world wide web. Something non-techy users like me could access.

I know about Gemini and Gopher protocols and have used them. They might do for basic, simply formatted text communication, but aren't suited for more complex structures. They're probably limited in other ways too, like how robust or secure they are and how much traffic they can handle.

There's ftp - file transfer protocol. There's Tor, which I know almost nothing about. AFAIK everything else is just http/https.

So are there people working on this, or sources to find out more about alternative networks?

Of course none of it will matter if it gets to the point where our ISPs start blocking any devices that don't provide the required credentials.

Maybe it will come down to mesh networking, at least for people who live in the more densely populated areas.

The debate around age restrictions on social media is evolving into calls to ban VPN services. What a surprise. Not.

Instead of addressing the real issue - techno capitalism gone wild - they intend to take away what little tools we have to defend our privacy against it.

The politicians subscribing to this surveillance madness have made themselves techno capitalism's enablers. None of them can ever again rightfully claim to work for the people - for us!
