I keep looking at Iranian media and am just in shock with how organized their government is despite an assassination and thousands of US bombings in only a few days.
Meanwhile the Americans government is a total clusterfuck.
There is NO support right now for US citizens stranded in West Asia.
Many commercial airports are closed and the US really should be operating its own flights to get stranded citizens out.
In the past 72 hours Iran has continued to pound targets throughout the middle east including within Israel.
Numerous reports over the weekend prove that Iran has been using ballastic missiles with cluster warheads which have been basically impossible for close in anti-aircraft weapons to shootdown once they split apart.
Important to note, Israel never signed the weapons ban on cluster munitions nor did Iran.

This morning we were greeted by videos shot by the first tanker crew to take Trump's advice... showing the crew clinging to life rafts watching the smoking wreck of their ship.

Iran says they're doing IR monitoring of engine heat for signs if any movement without their permission.

In recent days, negotiations between the Pentagon and Anthropic collapsed after the company pushed for strict limits on domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons. Soon after, OpenAI reached its own agreement with the Defense Department to deploy its models on a classified government network."

Trump & Attorney General #PamBondi were sued Thursday over the US government's approval of a deal by TikTok's Chinese owner ByteDance to establish a majority American-owned joint venture, saying the approval was illegal & did not meet the requirements of a 2024 #law.
The lawsuit was filed in the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of two retail US investors in rival #socialmedia firms. It aims to require a renegotiation of the deal "that doesn't put administration allies in a position to #censor #political #content on one of the world's most popular #media platforms."
The lawsuit does not seek to force a ban on #TikTok, which is used by 200 million Americans.
#Congress passed #legislation in April 2024 requiring #ByteDance to sell its US assets by January 2025 or face a ban or potentially hundreds of billions of dollars in fines -- but #Trump opted not to enforce the law & #PamBondi told companies they would face no liability for continuing to allow TikTok use.

That could include information such as the questions you ask your favorite chatbot, your Google search history, your GPS-tracked movements, and your credit-card transactions, all of which could be cross-referenced with other details about your life. Anthropic’s leadership told Hegseth’s team that was a bridge too far, and the deal fell apart. Soon after, Hegseth directed the U.S. military’s contractors, suppliers, and partners to stop doing business with Anthropic. The list of companies that contract with the military is extensive, and includes Amazon, the company that supplies much of Anthropic’s computing infrastructure. The Department of Defense did not respond to a request for comment. A spokesperson for Anthropic referred me to the company’s statement addressing Hegseth’s remarks."

Which IMO that's a VERY apt assessment on Nick's par, the Dems are effectively just better Republicans.
The Dems STILL are not all aligned on eliminating ICE and many of them probably are OK with tariffs so long as it's not Trump suggesting it.
Nick's literally already sounds like a "we can reform ICE"-democrat ffs.

Altman shows up at Mar-a-Lago and calls Trump “incredible for the country.” In his announcement, he praises the DoW’s “respect for safety,” while Amodei called out their intimidation. Altman defers; Amodei doesn’t. These things matter. They show Altman can be worked with (or more cynically, controlled).
To be clear, I don’t think this is how any tech leader wants to work with the government. It doesn’t matter if you’re tech right, effective altruist, a profit-maxxing mercenary, whatever: it is terrifying that the US government may try to destroy your whole business if you set any requirements for how your products are used, and that federal contracts no longer mean things and can be ripped apart whenever. (It is terrifying for the public that the Pentagon is throwing this fit over the right to mass surveillance and killer bots.)
The question is—given how petty and personalistic Hegseth and Trump and co. are—whether American executives still have any choice.
Politics has always been one of Silicon Valley’s blind spots. Over the last ten years, in the wake of the techlash and social media and antitrust trials, tech leaders have realized how beholden they are to government power."
