I've worn a Garmin for 10+ years and logged thousands of runs, rides, hikes...you name it. That data can also tell you where I live, where I've traveled, and when I've been under stress.

After reading @zackwhittaker 's recent story on Oura ring's lack of transparency reporting, I was curious about the current state of other wearables.

I looked at 12 major wearable brands to see who publishes transparency reports (aka the documents that tell you how often a company hands your data to the government).

2 out of 12 do: Apple and Google/Fitbit.

P.S. The ad networks aren't listening to you, but they're terrifyingly good at predicting your behavior!

They know who you're spending time with via location data. They know what you and those people have already bought. They know your age and other demographic characteristics. They know you lingered on an Instagram ad for 3 seconds before scrolling.

The solution is to use ad-blockers everywhere. Also, avoid apps and products that explicitly track you.

                          • Add proofs as notations in your PGP key

                                  image c/o qz.com

Mozilla unveiled a major visual and functional overhaul of Firefox on Wednesday, the browser's largest redesign since 2020, with changes to its appearance, privacy settings, and AI controls expected to roll out later this year. Those eager to try the new look can already do so, as Neowin reports that the Nova changes are live in Firefox's experimental Nightly channel. Activation requires opening about:config, creating a new boolean entry called "browser.nova.enabled," and toggling it to true before restarting — though anyone doing so should be aware that Nightly is a pre-release channel and instability is possible.
