I've worn a Garmin for 10+ years and logged thousands of runs, rides, hikes...you name it. That data can also tell you where I live, where I've traveled, and when I've been under stress.
After reading @zackwhittaker 's recent story on Oura ring's lack of transparency reporting, I was curious about the current state of other wearables.
I looked at 12 major wearable brands to see who publishes transparency reports (aka the documents that tell you how often a company hands your data to the government).
2 out of 12 do: Apple and Google/Fitbit.

P.S. The ad networks aren't listening to you, but they're terrifyingly good at predicting your behavior!
They know who you're spending time with via location data. They know what you and those people have already bought. They know your age and other demographic characteristics. They know you lingered on an Instagram ad for 3 seconds before scrolling.
The solution is to use ad-blockers everywhere. Also, avoid apps and products that explicitly track you.
tired of Grindr? tired of apps that sell your data?
Zorro is a new GBTIQ+ dating and social app from Spain, built by two Spanish gay guys who had enough.

- max 4 unanswered messages, no spam
- chronological feed, no algorithm
- hashtags instead of checkboxes

WhatsApp on iOS may still store chat data outside encrypted containers in certain cases, raising new concerns about backups, local storage, and forensic access.

Finally set up Keyoxide for decentralized identity verification. If you're not familiar: it lets you cryptographically link your PGP key to your social accounts without trusting a central authority (RIP Keybase).
The setup:
• Add proofs as notations in your PGP key
• Platforms verify via your published key
• Anyone can check the chain independently
Also enabled WKD so my key auto-fetches:

#ai #browser #firefox #overhaul #privacy #redesignMozilla unveiled a major visual and functional overhaul of Firefox on Wednesday, the browser's largest redesign since 2020, with changes to its appearance, privacy settings, and AI controls expected to roll out later this year. Those eager to try the new look can already do so, as Neowin reports that the Nova changes are live in Firefox's experimental Nightly channel. Activation requires opening about:config, creating a new boolean entry called "browser.nova.enabled," and toggling it to true before restarting — though anyone doing so should be aware that Nightly is a pre-release channel and instability is possible.

Can Slack admins read your DMs?
https://nordpass.com/blog/can-slack-admins-read-dms/
> If you use Slack for work, chances are you’ve sent a message or two that you hoped only your teammate would get to see. It’s all right, we’ve all done it—expecting a bit of privacy in what feels like a one-on-one conversation. But is Slack privacy even a thing? Are your DMs just between you and the person you’re chatting with? Let’s find out.
Discord now enables default end-to-end encryption for voice and video across DMs, group calls, channels and Go Live streams using the open-source DAVE protocol. 🔐
Externally audited encryption keeps keys on user devices, while unsupported clients are blocked and text messages remain server-accessible. 🛡️

So bad-news/good-news
Both California & Colorado are going ahead with their HORRIBLE Age-verification bills, however, both are now specifically excluding Open-Source OS's.
IMO the bill should not exist in the first place, and should not pass, and is a giant publicity stunt that will cost tons of time, effort, and money, but ultimately fail to do a single thing to protect kids.
It's good to see the #CPC opposing #bill_c22 , joining Prof. @mgeist and @OpenMediaOrg among many others. As the world becomes more digital, privacy rights become more important.
Mozilla’s Project Nova redesign for Firefox adds rounded tabs, customizable layouts and a reorganized Settings page with easier access to privacy and AI controls. 🦊

// affiliato ▸ AdGuard VPN · VPN veloce e rispettosa della privacy · Scopri i piani →

You disable the VPN, they show “unprotected”, come on, I’m not really unprotected, why such a dramatic word, I just disabled the thing a little, I’m “disconnected” but it doesn’t mean I’m actually unprotected, the same way it doesn’t mean I’m actually protected if I’m using a VPN.
