The experiment is nearing its final stage.

The work began three months ago when I decided to acquire a specific skillset, for no particular reason, and to learn by doing. Since then, I've occasionally found myself getting caught up in the mess that is creation. When I hit a hurdle, I improvise, read, and bug someone close to me who's an expert in the field.

So the idea of Bookhouse is basically inspired by this book from 1979 called ‘Masquerade’ by an artist called Kit Williams.

He hid a golden hare in the UK and wrote this book and filled it full of paintings as the clues to where the treasure is buried.

I’m trying to do the same. But different.

To avoid the world, I've been reading a lot. SFF, nonfiction, fiction, etc. But over the past few years I have kept coming back to the Inspector Maigret series by Georges Simenon. There are approximately 75 of them, and I've read almost a quarter of them. They were all written between 1931 and 1975 or so, they're not too long (150 pages on average), and somehow Simenon managed to be a strikingly good observer of personality. In my mind, he's as good a psychological writer as almost anyone else.

Definitely recommend if mysteries and quick, accurate sketches of people are your thing.

The Hornblower series by C.S. Forester.

Several volumes about the career of a British naval officer during/after the Napoleonic wars. Excellent reading, and highly recommended if you've never encountered them before.
