I've never understood this visceral hatred Linux users have for Windows. :0)

I still use Windows XP often.
Is support ending?

Take it with humor, eh! ;0)

Can anyone recommend a (Mint Cinnamon) friendly USB wifi adapter?

Preferably one that doesn't require separate driver installation.

My new computer's network card (Mediatek MT7920) doesn't have linux drivers yet, it seems.

(Before you ask, I'm not using it in a spot where I can run ethernet cable.)

EDIT: Immediate, great suggestions in the replies. Fedi for the win. Thanks all!

I'm curious to hear what others are ! Here's my current setup:

            Hardware & OS

            Infrastructure & Networking

            Security & Monitoring

            Authentication & Identity Management

            • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
            • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!

            Productivity & Personal Tools

            Notifications & Development Workflow

            • Notifications via:  (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail ()
            • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension.

            Accessibility Focus ♿️🖥️

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (), so I prioritize services usable without sight (). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

            I've also experimented with:

            • Ollama (): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
            • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here ()—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?

Recommendations for PDF creation software? Does not need to have super high end functions. Basically: create, insert pages, delete pages, add text, add a sig, highlight portions, maybe comments.

Well this week has bee a fantastic week for my son and his journey through

He decided he wanted to move to Linux as he didn't want Windows 11 and his Windows 10 was going EOL on Oct 14th.

He took his time choosing the right distro but ended up on for his computer, and so I helped him set it up and show him how to do some basic things like installing/uninstalling programs, I installed some programs he uses like Discord, Steam, Brave Browser, showed him how to import all of his bookmarks and saved passwords etc, and then set up Bitwarden for him to keep his saved passwords secure in my self hosted Bitwarden vault.

He's been using it for a couple of days now and so far I have had no complaints from him, I don't think I would anyway, he's eager to be fully transitioned over to and with the desktop environment we chose to use, I think he will be absolutely fine.

It feels like a great win for us, he was always solid into the Windows corner due to gaming, but when I showed him that gaming works flawlessly on Linux now we have all the goodies of vulkan and proton, that seemed to open his eyes into the possibilities, and now he's made the switch and all his games seem to "just work", he's one happy chappy.

Not to mention no longer beholden unto the Microsoft machine!

                      @F3715H @Gargron maybe try this?

Just unpack it, go into the extracted folder and run the following collands on :

                      wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/slashyn/mastodon-archive-viewer-modified/refs/heads/master/html_from_archive.py
                      chmod +x ./html_from_archive.py
                      python3 ./html_from_archive.py

And then just open the processed_archive.html file in a browser...

I think it's kind of awesome that my server is an absolutely ancient box hooked into the home network via an ethernet cable plugged into an electrical socket.

My library is mostly ripped DVDs and CDs bought at thrift stores.

So basically replicating a streaming service with the lowest possible financial investment. Heck, the least possible time investment, too. I installed the software, didn't change many settings, and rip DVDs while I'm working.
