          Linux-Install-Party

I'm well on my way on my journey now.

I bought a new tower and wanted nothing to do with Windows 11 (that comes pre-installed).

Linux Mint: wouldn't install. Had worked very well on two older computers.

Ubuntu: installed, but weirdly. Not usable. See link.

                    Zorin: installed cleanly first attempt!

Pretty psyched to get this tower loaded up and ready to go as my new primary computer.

Next: install Crossover as a means to use an older version of MS Office.

                      Hey, users —

I want to verify my initial download of Cinnamon Mint.

My understanding, though, is that once you have Linux installed, updating apps and updating the OS itself is as easy as clicking a button somewhere?

The question is: if safest practice is to verify the initial downloaded image, how does one (or does one) verify the simplified updates?

If not, why not? Wouldn’t OS updates be as susceptible to bad actors messing with the code and faking an image as the original download was?

Just trying to clarify it for my own peace of mind.

The only thing worse than the "I use Arch" crowd, is the "GNU's not Linux" crowd.

I fucking know. I've been using it for 29 years. "Linux" is the catch-all that has been adopted by the community at large because no one wants to say "I use Debian 12 GNU plus Linux".

Pointing this out in nauseating detail doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look condescending. Call it whatever you like. I really don't care, but don't lecture me on it.

When you boot from the USB, Ventoy gives you a menu to pick which ISO you want to run.
