Have you ever reached a place in life where it felt like the story was over? The diagnosis came. The relationship ended. The door closed. The dream seemed lost. You looked at the situation and thought, This is the end. But often what looks like a period to us is only a comma to God. Throughout Scripture, we see moments when people believed the story was finished, only to discover that God was still writing. Joseph was sold into slavery...and then God. The Israelites were trapped between [โฆ] [SENSITIVE CONTENT]
Have you ever reached a place in life where it felt like the story was over?
The diagnosis came. The relationship ended. The door closed. The dream seemed lost. You looked at the situation and thought, This is the end.
But often what looks like a period to us is only a comma to God.
Throughout Scripture, we see moments when people believed the story was finished, only to discover that God was still writing.
Joseph was sold into slavery…and then God.
The Israelites were trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea…and then God.
Lazarus was in the tomb for four days…and then God.
Jesus was crucified and buried…and then God.
God specializes in writing “and then God” moments into stories that appear hopeless.
That doesn’t mean every outcome changes the way we want it to. God’s sovereignty does not guarantee that life will unfold according to our plans. But His sovereignty does guarantee that He remains in control even when circumstances seem out of control.
Yet God’s sovereignty does not negate our responsibility.
Sometimes Christians use God’s sovereignty as an excuse for passivity. We tell ourselves, “If God wants it to happen, it will happen,” and then do nothing. But Scripture consistently calls us to trust God while also taking responsibility for our choices.
You may not be able to control the outcome, but you can control your response.
You may not be able to choose your circumstances, but you can choose faith over fear.
You may not be able to change what happened, but you can choose forgiveness instead of bitterness.
You may not be able to stop the storm, but you can decide where you anchor your heart.
Our responsibility is obedience. God’s responsibility is the outcome.
Many of us spend so much energy trying to control things we cannot control that we neglect the things God has placed within our hands.
One of those things is people.
How often have we exhausted ourselves trying to change someone else’s heart?
A spouse.
A child.
A coworker.
A friend.
The truth is, you can often influence the ending of a situation, but you cannot change another person. Only God can do that.
You can pray.
You can encourage.
You can set healthy boundaries.
You can speak truth in love.
But you cannot force transformation in another human being.
Trying to do so will leave you frustrated, exhausted, and discouraged.
Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is entrust that person to God and focus on your own obedience.
And while we’re waiting for God to work, we need to remember another important truth: with blessings often come battles.
The enemy rarely fights over territory he already owns.
When God begins opening doors, growing your faith, healing your heart, strengthening your ministry, restoring your family, or leading you into a new season, resistance often follows.
The enemy will attempt to distract, discourage, divide, and derail.
Not because the blessing isn’t from God, but because it is.
The battle doesn’t always mean you’re going the wrong way. Sometimes it is confirmation that you’re moving in the right direction.
Don’t be surprised when opposition appears. Instead, put on the armor of God and keep walking.
And that leads to one final thought.
Don’t get out.
Too many people leave too soon.
They leave the marriage before God finishes His work.
They leave the ministry before the harvest.
They leave the church because of conflict.
They leave the calling because of hardship.
They leave the process because it feels uncomfortable.
Now, there are certainly situations where someone else should leaveโwhen there is abuse, danger, or unrepentant sin. Wisdom and discernment matter.
But many times, the person who is ready to quit is actually standing on the edge of breakthrough.
The enemy whispers, “Get out.”
God whispers, “Hold on.”
The enemy says, “It’s over.”
God says, “I’m not finished.”
The enemy points to the period.
God points to the comma.
If you’re in a difficult season today, remember this:
God’s sovereignty does not eliminate your responsibility.
You may not control the outcome, but you can control your response.
You cannot change another person, but God can.
Blessings often come with battles.
And what feels like the end may simply be the place where God is preparing an “and then God” moment.
So don’t put a period where God puts a comma.
Keep trusting.
Keep praying.
Keep obeying.
Keep believing.
The Author is still writing your story.

From Cosmos to Creation: Sciencey stuff for the Christian

We sure are products of our growing up influences, aren’t we? My parents both loved non-fiction. Books, documentaries, interviews…they were constantly delving into them, especially science and natural history.
I vividly remember my father so intrigued and charmed by a new (1980) documentary series on Public Broadcasting channel (PBS), ‘Cosmos’. It was hosted by American astronomer, planetary scientist and science communicator Carl Sagan.
‘It explored the 15-billion-year evolution of the universe, humanity’s place among the stars, and the history of science. It remains one of the most widely watched and celebrated science programs in television history’, according to Wikipedia.
Sagan was a good communicator, bringing down to the layman the complicated scientific facts and theories behind the universe and its planetary workings. I liked the program too. I watched the whole series twice.
Then I got saved.
My worldview shifted, of course, and now I know many of the intricacies of the universe because I know the One who created it, is transcendent beyond it, and has revealed some of it to us in His word.
Now when I watch documentaries I have to brush aside presentations of ‘evolution’ or other theories that are just untrue. This does dampen my enjoyment of them. I just have to go in with a filter and stay vigilant if I’m going to watch. Most scientists are secular and come to their niche in science with that mindset.
But not all!
Here is Captain Barry Wilmore. Wikipedia describes him this way-
Barry Eugene “Butch” Wilmore (born December 29, 1962) is an American retired NASA astronaut and United States Navy test pilot. He is a veteran of three spaceflights, the first of which was an 11-day Space Shuttle mission in November 2009, to the International Space Station. In total, he spent a total of 464 days off Earth and 32 hours outside of a spacecraft.
And this: “He is an elder at Providence Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas.”
He was one of the astronauts that got stranded on the space station. An 8-day mission turned into nine months in space. He (and his crewmate) were returned safely to earth in March 2025.
Capt. Wilmore wrote a memoir of that journey. The blurb says, “More than a memoir of a journey to space and back, this is a story of how a faithful God shapes His people long before the watching world ever sees the outcome.”

Microcosmos is a documentary about insects. The film showcases detailed interactions between insects and other small invertebrates, with music by Bruno Coulais. Aside from a short intro and outro, there is no narration. At imdb.com, Reviewers say ‘Microcosmos’ delivers breathtaking cinematography and stunning visual spectacle through extraordinary technical achievement, with crystal-clear macrophotography that immerses viewers in the insect world at eye level. It was released in 1996 and to this day has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 97%. There is an English version and a French version, per the very short narration. Since there is no particular worldview presented except observing insects doing what they do, no worries about hearing evolution or such. It is unrated.
I saw this one, which also has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but I don’t remember if it presents a Christian worldview or a secular one. Common Sense Media says “The documentary contains no offensive language or anti-religious messaging. It portrays both the beauty of the natural world and the realities of the life-and-death cycles (such as natural predation) in a completely unbiased, G-rated format.” It is called ‘Winged Migration’.

He asked me a simple question:
“If you were stranded on a deserted island and could bring only one thing with you, what would it be?”
Immediately, my mind began thinking of practical thingsโfood, water, shelter, tools, or some way to call for rescue. But before I could settle on an answer, I felt Him gently respond:
“The Producer of miracles… or anything else?”
That question stopped me in my tracks. I quickly realized we automatically go to things of this world and overlook Him as a valuable possession. Then He spoke this Gem of Knowledge to me through His Holy Spirit:
“Nothing can give and produce like Me. You are essentially on a desert island in this life. Make sure you have Me with you because I am the only one who can sustain, produce miracles, and ultimately save you. Amen.”
I then thought, “Yes! You, of course! What better thing then You! After all, You can do anything.”
Why would I choose provision if I could choose the Provider?
Why would I choose food when I could choose the One who fed thousands with a few loaves and fish?
Why would I choose water when I could choose the One who brought water from a rock?
Why would I choose rescue when I could choose the Savior?
In 2 Kings 3, three kings found themselves trapped in the wilderness without water. Their situation was desperate. Their armies and animals were facing certain death if God did not intervene. Yet God did what only He could do. Without rain and without natural explanation, He filled the dry valley with water and delivered His people.
The provision was miraculous because it came from the Provider. Hallelujah!
Then, in 2 Kings 4, we encounter a widow whose circumstances also appeared hopeless. She was burdened by debt and facing the loss of her sons. Yet God multiplied a small jar of oil into enough provision to meet every need. Shortly afterward, He also blessed the Shunammite woman with the child she had long desired.
Again and again, God demonstrated that He was not limited by human resources.
He was the source of them.
The Gem said, “You are essentially on a desert island in this life.”
Everything in this world is temporary. Possessions can be lost. Health can fail. Careers can change. People come and go. Even the strongest earthly foundations eventually pass away.
Only God remains through it all.
When we have Him, we possess the One who can provide whatever we need when we need it.
The greatest mistake we can make is becoming so focused on the gifts that we lose sight of the Giver.
Because at the end of the day, if I had to choose between all the provision in the world and the Provider Himself, I would choose the Provider every single time. ๐๐
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take at least 5 minutes to be with the Provider today, Jesus. Ask Him:
- โLord, what do You want me to know about this personally?โ
- Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, โWhat do You want me to do?โ
- Journal what He reveals โย then do it!
Thank Him for His blessings and make a conscious decision to place your trust in the One who gives them.
Prayer
Father, thank You for being my Provider, Sustainer, Miracle Worker, and Savior. Forgive me for the times I have trusted more in Your gifts than in You. Help me keep my eyes fixed on the Giver rather than the gifts. Teach me to rely on Your wisdom, Your strength, and Your provision in every season of life. Thank You that You are more than enough for every need I will ever face. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
