People crapping all over #Mozilla for having an X account now, yet I see #fedipeeps with X account links on their bios, #FOSS projects with X links on their homepages...

I despise X and Musk, but maybe be a little more consistent.

And I have publicly rebuked FOSS projects on #fedi for having X account links on their homepages, asking them just what Musk would have to do to get them to delete it.

If you're gonna go scorched earth, be consistent with it, otherwise it's just sparkling douchebaggery.

Like, if the Linux distro you use has an X or Meta account (and many of them do), but you haven't said anything about that... BRUH.

Briar just went into maintenance mode, and their update named the problems they couldn’t get past. Some of them we’ve already shipped: account backup, attachments, reliable contact adding, channels.

For 3.0 we’re going further, replacing the inherited Briar/Bramble layers with our own protocol stack. Transport, wire format, sync, message model, all ours. Bramble stays the origin, but stops being the foundation.

(1/N) A trend I observed over the last 30 years in leadership (speaking primarily of ) is a slow but steady tendency as leaders get more powerful, they become increasingly unwilling to admit they've erred. I've observed this both with prior generation of leadership (eg: Moglen, Raymond, Rosen, Stallman), & with FOSS leaders contemporary to me (eg: Behlendorf, Dolan, Torvalds, Zemlin). …

I guess if code generated from GPL code is not also GPL then the GPL license is useless.

Do open source people like the Free Software Foundation believe closed sourced people would accept it in the other direction?

Imagine if the Linux folk had invented a GPL code generator trained on Microsoft and Oracle code. Would those companies have gone "yep, you got us, that's fair use, enjoy!" Haha NEVER.

Mullvad VPN Did A Complete F*CK-UP

                      m.youtube.com/watch?v=7UmyDGjx

„Mullvad founder and co-owner Daniel Berntsson donated five million Swedish Krona, ~$500k, to a local political party in Sweden. That on its own is a red flag to someone like me, who believes private donations to politicians and their parties should be illegal. But that’s not the biggest problem of this donation.

The biggest problem is what kind of a party this Mullvad owner personally donated to. It’s to the Örebro Party. A party with policies so broad and across the spectrum they seem to appeal to everyone all at once. But one of them, the key one in fact, stands out as the most incompatible with privacy and personal freedom. Values that the Mullvad company claims to uphold.

Örebro's political platform amounts to establishing a deeply authoritarian surveillance state in order to enforce their policies. If I just told you what it is you might not immediately see why it’s a problem so let me give you a deep political analysis of this situation."

Briar is going into maintenance mode, only security fixes from here. Not for lack of skill. They had no funding and built it in their spare time for years.

Zerion runs on their Bramble protocol and we owe them for it. The gaps they listed as unsolved, account backup, attachments, reliably adding contacts, we’ve shipped. Our own protocol stack is next.

The foundation stays. The work keeps moving.

An independent security audit is the single thing standing between “trust us” and “verified.” It’s also what Privacy Guides, journalists and security reviewers rightly ask for before recommending any messenger.

We’re raising funds to have Zerion audited by Radically Open Security. Every finding gets published, good or bad. That’s the deal.

Most apps keep a log of what you get up to in them. Catchlight keeps one too, built so it can never hold your notes.
When sync or storage hits a snag, it records the event, a timestamp, a category, a short message, and never the content of a note or your key. You can read the whole history in Settings and export it to attach to a bug report.
A diagnostics log that knows nothing about you is the only kind a privacy app should keep.
