Here is how I measure success in learning a language, and it has nothing to do with grades or grammar drills. 🇮🇱
Success is when you enjoy learning it so much that you do not want to stop.
When Hebrew stops feeling like homework and starts feeling like the best part of your day, you have already won, because that joy is the feeling that carries you all the way.
That is exactly what I built Practically Speaking Hebrew around. Not pressure, not endless lists. Just real Hebrew, taught in a way that makes you want to keep going, with a native teacher right beside you.
If you are ready to fall in love with learning Hebrew, come join me.

Every Sunday, after I post my weekly Hebrew video lesson my husband and I set out on a little adventure. We pick a new spot in Charleston for brunch and let this beautiful city sweep us away. 🇮🇱🍳
Today it was finally “Church and Union.” The restaurant lives inside a renovated 105-year-old church, with 60-foot vaulted ceilings and the original stained glass still glowing over the room. And then you look up. The entire text of Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” is hand-painted across that ceiling, more than twelve thousand words, with the company’s mantra written large among them: There Is Only We.
This is our ritual. After a full week of teaching Hebrew we step out together, find somewhere new, and wander the historic streets letting the stories of this city wash over us.
What is your version of this? The weekly ritual that brings you back to yourself. 💙

As America turns 250, I made a special Fourth of July video unpacking this beautiful, hidden Hebrew thread woven right into the heart of American freedom.
It is live now. Go watch it, then tell me, did you have any idea the Liberty Bell was carrying Hebrew scripture all this time? 🎬

SEARCH “HEBREW BY INBAL” on YouTube to find it as well.
"The #Samaritans are different. They are a tiny community of around 800 souls, divided between #Holon and #KiryatLuza near #Nablus. They trace their ancestry back to the ancient #Israelites and possess a version of the #Torah that differs only slightly from our own. Their central point of departure from mainstream #Judaism is their belief that #MountGerizim, rather than #Jerusalem, is the divinely chosen place, together with their rejection of the Oral Law and #rabbinic tradition.
As I stood among them, watching ancient rituals performed with immense sincerity, hearing #Hebrew prayers and seeing #Torahscrolls carried with reverence, I could not help feeling that I was encountering not strangers, but long-lost cousins.
Their Torah is, with only relatively minor differences, our Torah. #Abraham, #Isaac, #Jacob, and #Moses are their ancestors no less than ours. Yet somewhere in the distant past, our paths diverged."
This is where her story turns. And after everything in this series, you already know the truth: it was never you. It was the what, and the how.
The real fix, learning Hebrew the way your brain actually thinks with someone guiding you so you never quietly get stuck is exactly what my program Practically Speaking Hebrew is built for.
If you're ready to finally get there, comment SPEAK and I'll send you where to start. Or go straight to hebrewbyinbal.com/speak.
No rush, no pressure. It'll be here whenever you are.
Here is something most people walking past the Liberty Bell never realize. The words inscribed on it come straight from the Hebrew Bible. 🔔🇺🇸🇮🇱
“Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” That line is from Leviticus, and the original Hebrew word for liberty carries a meaning far richer than most translations capture.
As America turns 250, I made a special Fourth of July video unpacking this beautiful, hidden Hebrew thread woven right into the heart of American freedom.
It lands tomorrow, Sunday at noon Eastern, on my YouTube channel. Set a reminder and meet me there. 🎬

"A remarkable discovery has recently emerged from among a group of rare #books and #manuscripts consigned to my shop: an unrecorded eighteenth-century #Hebrew autograph manuscript penned by #Rabbi #YekutielGordon, one of the most fascinating and consequential members of the inner circle of Rabbi #MosheChaimLuzzatto, the #Ramchal.
Hidden from public view for centuries, this extraordinary #manuscript came to light only through careful examination of a collection entrusted to the shop for sale.
The manuscript itself is modest in size – approximately 4.5 by 6.5 inches – but immense in significance. Consisting of one hundred surviving double-sided folios, it preserves what appears to be a previously unknown work entitled #MarehKohen, together with a section of #MarehMussar, a work already known to scholars and associated with Rabbi Yekutiel Gordon.
Mareh Kohen focuses largely on the themes of #Elul, #teshuvah, the #YamimNoraim, and the profound symbolism of the #shofar."

There is a kind of hesitation I see all the time and it holds people back before they ever begin. The worry that if they try to speak Hebrew they will get it wrong.
“What if I say it incorrectly?” “What if I sound silly?” So instead of practicing, people hold back and stay quiet and that quiet becomes the very thing that keeps them stuck, because confidence in speaking only grows by actually speaking.
My students tell me again and again that they felt safe with me. Encouraged instead of judged. Free to try, stumble, and try again. And slowly the hesitation softened and their voice grew stronger.
That is the environment I create on purpose. You do not have to feel completely ready to start. You just have to start somewhere safe.

I have ordered the same Nespresso pods for years and this morning I noticed something I had never seen before. Hebrew, right there on the side of the box. ☕🇮🇱
I looked it up and this batch was made for a handful of markets, Argentina, Mexico, the USA, and Israel, so the Hebrew was printed alongside the other languages.
And it landed with me in the best way. Coffee already feels like a little hug to me. Seeing my language on the box in my kitchen here in America, felt like that same hug all over again. A small reminder of home showing up where I least expected it.
That is what language does. It finds you and it says you are still home, wherever you are.
Has your language ever surprised you somewhere unexpected? 💙
You did everything right. The lessons. The streaks. Years, for some of you. And Hebrew still slipped through your fingers.
Over the next six parts, I am going to show you exactly why, and it has nothing to do with your age, your memory, or how hard you tried.
By the end, you will see the one thing no class or app ever told you. This is where it starts.
Send this to someone who is still convinced they just cannot learn Hebrew. Follow so every part finds you.

I am out on a morning hike surrounded by trees and fresh air, and I am still thinking about Hebrew verbs. Some things never turn off. 🌿

"On Sunday, crowds of thousands rode ferries to #GovernorsIsland to attend a kind of #NewYork-centric Coachella for #Jewishfood and culture.
With glistening waters and the Statue of Liberty in sight, the droves then descended upon a lush lawn for the festival, the #GreatNosh. Revelers in flip-flops held inflatable green #pickles while they danced on the grass. People wearing #Hebrew-lettered jewelry and #StarofDavid necklaces waited in line for portable toilets. Couples strolled together with cups of #VanLeeuwen ice cream paired with black-and-white cookies from #Zabar’s.
The #festival’s stalls were filled with #Jewish institutions that had buddied up with buzzy establishments to serve New Yawky gastronomic fusions, a concept that is the Great Nosh’s guiding idea."

If you have ever kept a perfect streak on a language app, finished all the lessons, and then sat across from a real person and gone completely blank, hear this. That was not your fault.
My new YouTube video drops today at noon Eastern. You did not fail Hebrew. The method failed you.
Most apps are built to keep you opening them, not to teach you to speak. The streak feels like progress, but it is an illusion. Real clarity and confidence come from something completely different, and that is what I break down today.

Tune in at noon EST.

Almost every student tells me the same thing about how they tried to learn Hebrew before they found me. They were completely on their own.
An app cannot answer your question. A video cannot tell you that you almost have it. A textbook cannot encourage you when you are ready to give up. So people studied in isolation, made the same mistakes over and over, and slowly lost the confidence to keep going.
That is the one thing I refuse to let happen. When you learn with me, you are never alone. You ask me your questions. You record yourself and I give you real, personal feedback. Not a bot. Me.
You do not have to do this alone anymore.

Of all the father-related Hebrew I have taught this week, this is the most meaningful one to close with.
Our Father in Heaven. A phrase at the very heart of faith for so many, spoken in prayer across the world every single day. There is something powerful about hearing it in Hebrew, the language it has echoed in for thousands of years.
Watch the final lesson in my father series. 💙
There is a phrase in Hebrew that has traveled almost 3,000 years and is still spoken in Israel today.
It comes from the prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel. Modern Israelis still use a shortened version and everyone understands instantly.
This is what I love about Hebrew. A phrase can begin in scripture and still be alive on the street thousands of years later.
Watch today’s lesson and learn it in both its biblical and modern form. 💙

So many of my students come to me after years on the apps. Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, the streaks and the points and the cheerful notifications.
And they all tell me the same thing. I memorized hundreds of words and I still cannot say a single sentence to a real person.
That is not your fault. Those apps are built to keep you opening them, not to teach you how the language actually works. They give you words in isolation with no structure underneath.
That is exactly what I do differently. I teach you the structure beneath the language so you are not collecting random words, you are building real Hebrew and using it in real life.
If the apps left you with nothing to show for it, it was never you.

Father’s Day is this Sunday, and I saved some of my favorite father-related Hebrew words for this moment.
There is something beautiful about the way Hebrew holds the idea of fathers, not just one dad but the whole lineage, the generations, the men who came before.
Watch this short lesson and bring a little Hebrew into your weekend. And tell me, who is the father figure you are thinking about this week? 💙
There is “dad” in Hebrew, and then there is the softer, more loving way little ones call out for their fathers. The tender version, full of warmth and affection, the kind of word that holds a whole feeling inside it.
With Father’s Day around the corner, I wanted to teach you exactly that, because some words are not just words. They are love.
Watch the short lesson and learn the loving way to say it. And tell me what you called your father growing up. 💙
So many people tell me the same thing when they first come to me. Hebrew felt impossible. The alphabet looked like a wall. The pronunciation rules made their head spin. And every method they tried was either too complicated or too dry to stick with.
If that is you, hear this clearly. Hebrew is not too hard for you. It was just never broken down the right way.
What my students tell me over and over is that I take the overwhelming and make it manageable. Complex concepts broken into clear pieces that actually click, step by step, at your own pace.
You just need a teacher who knows how to make it make sense.

Father’s Day is June 21st, and ahead of it I wanted to teach you one of the most ancient and meaningful words in the Hebrew language - the word for father.
It has been spoken for thousands of years through prayer, through scripture, through generations of families calling out to the ones who raised them.
Watch the short lesson and carry the word with you into Sunday. And tell me one thing your father always said that you have never forgotten. 💙
The Hebrew month of Tamuz starts today. The month of seeing. Of vision. Of the eyes. Of how we look at what is right in front of us.
Two people can stand in the exact same life, look at the exact same thing, and one sees a wall while the other sees a door. Same place. Same facts. Completely different sight.
That is the quiet invitation of Tamuz. It is not asking you to change what is in front of you. It is asking how you are choosing to see it.
So this month, notice where your eyes go. You might be looking at something you have looked at for years, and finally be ready to see it differently. 💙

I sat down in front of these words this morning and they said it all. “The world is your oyster.” That is exactly what Hebrew does. It opens the world to you. Israel. Family. Faith. Scripture in its original language. A whole life waiting just out of reach until the language finally clicks.

I have spent years watching what happens to people when Hebrew finally clicks for them and it is never just about the language.
Something opens. A connection to family they could not fully reach before. A scripture they always heard but never truly understood. A trip to Israel that finally felt like coming home. A heritage that was always theirs but always felt just out of reach.
That is what Hebrew does. And that is why I will never stop teaching it.

A photo reminder just stopped me this morning and I had to share it.
This is the day Hebrew 1 went live on Amazon for the first time. My husband bought me a button so I could press it the moment the first sale came in and I waited.
I pressed it. It made a cash register sound. And everything changed.
That moment was never really about the sale. It was about what it meant to put something I built completely from scratch, from love, from conviction, from nothing out into the world and have one person say yes.
Five years later I am an Amazon bestselling author 5 consecutive years running with thousands of students across 30+ countries. But it all started here. One button. One sound. One stranger who trusted me with their Hebrew journey.
Every dream starts somewhere this quiet. This was mine.

What they do not tell you about learning Hebrew is that most methods set you up to fail from day one. Words without structure. Grammar without context. And zero understanding of how an English-speaking brain actually makes the transition into Hebrew thinking.
Practically Speaking Hebrew fixes all of that. Built specifically for English speakers, it separates speaking and understanding from reading and writing so you are never overwhelmed, teaches real patterns instead of endless vocabulary lists, and gives you lifetime personal access to me, a native Israeli teacher who stays with you for life.
