soc.octade.net is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.

This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.

Any cop, admin or politician: whenever they feel like it, they can read what you write to your family, partner or friends. There will be a trade in private pornographic material. Blackmail and defamation will increase even further. The end of democracy… if it ever existed in the first place.
              If you want to protect yourselves, use (for example) DeltaChat!!Because although they’re evil, they’re stupid. DeltaChat is decentralised, which means there’s no single point they can monitor.

                WOW!!! @treefit got (with chatmail core and all!!!) running in the browser!

                this prototype is incredibly awesome and working way too good already!

                there was some version of Delta Chat desktop but that still was just about displaying the UI in the browser, you still depend on a local program and local core in your machine

                with this the whole thing is running on the client side in your browser tab! the chatmail core is compiled into

                still since you can't connect to IMAP and SMTP from javascript, a proxy is needed to get this prototype working but JUST IMAGINE if chatmail relays would support/allow clients to connect via websocket or http!

                    the fun part is that by using chatmail:

                    - DMs are already end-to-end encrypted
                    - your identity is your encryption key and doesn't depend on a single home server
                    - your profile is basically uncensorable

                    since you need to give people your invite link it is kind of like private social network

                                We don't think any institution or state has the right to prevent families and friends from private chatting, physically or digitally. But the Cyber Authority China (CaC) seems to take offense:

                                - they made Apple remove iOS for mainland china

                                - their great firewall appears to block some relays

                                - if you ask DeepSeek directly about Delta Chat, it doesn't want to talk
