The year of the AI agents is upon us — and it's becoming a little pricey.

OpenAI and Anthropic might be struggling to persuade corporate America to pay the mounting costs for their AI tools. China may have a cheaper alternative called GLM-5.2, but there's always a catch.

🚨 GitHub had two trust failures in the same week. Neither broke cryptography. Neither hacked AI.

They simply exploited the gap between what GitHub checks and what developers assume.

              1️⃣ Git Hash Chain Malleability
A signed commit can be transformed into multiple different commit SHAs without the signing key.

              ✅ Same code
              ✅ Same signature
              ✅ Still shows Verified
              ❌ Different commit hash

              2️⃣ GitLost (AI Prompt Injection)
GitHub's AI agent could be tricked into reading data from private repositories and posting it publicly through a malicious issue.

              One attacks cryptographic trust.
              The other attacks AI trust.

              Different bugs. Same lesson:
"Verified" doesn't always mean what you think it means.

It seems that in the "AI Idiot" race, China feels left behind and now decides that its biggest marketing and sales advantage, Open Source, is a risk, and they need to regulate it. Maybe they should look at the US experience in AI, Encryption, or Nukes and see how that didn't work out.

I have an prediction. You know how all these laws are getting rushed through various governments (#Canada: Bill C-22, for example)? You know how all these monstrously large datacenters are getting rushed through to be built? Well, I think these two things are linked together. When the AI industry found they can't really find willing customers to buy the AI services they offer, **to the extent that they profit**, now they are turning to capture unwilling customers who can be **forced** to pay: taxpayers. And how is that capture achieved? By the chatcontrol laws. The datacenters will run AI for the governments (controlled by TechBro billionaires), to scan everybody's phones and computers for CSAM (not to mention any and every agenda an authoritarian leader, TechBro billionaire, etc might also want to pursue). Those Datacenters are meant for mass governmant surveillance, paid for by taxpayers, who will be ostensibly fulfilling the mandate of the Chatcontrol laws.

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, owner of Tik Tok, Paramount Skydance, & others recently noted in an industry discussion on AI surveillance that "citizens will be on their best behavior because we’re constantly recording and reporting."

There's a significant tension between the corporate view of AI surveillance (e.g., Ellison's "best behavior" quote) and the ethical frameworks proposed by thinkers like Mo Gawdat.

One sees a tool for social control; the other sees a complex system requiring deep ethical consideration to avoid unintended consequences.

Where do we draw the line between security and liberty? 🤔

New Aniplex president Shu Nishimoto says the company is open to "carefully considering" AI if it can have a positive impact on creators' work.

Considering Aniplex oversees studios like A-1 Pictures and CloverWorks, this could have a major impact on the future of anime production.

Should AI be used to assist anime creators, or should studios avoid it altogether?
