    So those of you were hoping for a change under Andy Burnham's incoming administration around the politics of immigration will be sorely disappointed to find that Shabana Mahmood has not been moved to the Chancellorship but remains at the Home Office.

    So, I'm guessing for many Burnham's 'change' agenda is already fatally compromised (unless Mahmood is going to work to a different set or priorities for Burnham?)

          As hosepipe bans have been imposed (to save water in the heatwave), so Greenpeace have concluded that while banning hosepipe use can save around 4% of water use, this is dwarfed by the approx. 20% *still* lost through leaks in the water infrastructure, which the utilities have been (very) slow to maintain & repair.

          So, for customers the inconvenience of a hosepipe ban is a direct result of the money siphoned out of the sector by the privatised water firms.

                  Across the private sector business leaders & lobbyists are complaining they cannot establish contact with the team around Andy Burnham as they prepare to set up his administration as PM.

                  Of course, having been used to relatively un-fettered access to the Govt. for decades, business figures are now starting to panic about Burnham having other priorities.

                  They're likely shocked that for once they are *not* at the front of the political queue - tiny violin time!

                        Under Trump, the United States has made it clear that dependence on US tech can and will be weaponized.

                        In part, that's a new development — at least for some parts of the world. But ensuring the power of the US was sustained by getting other parts of the world to adopt its tech was always part of the plan.

                          Perhaps (now) to few people's surprise, the inquiry into the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the pandemic as concluded nearly two thirds of the money spent was wasted (£10bn of nearly £15bn spent), identifying the (so-callled) VIP lane as a key element in that wastage.

                          The mismanagement of PPE is a classic example of insiders enriching themselves while criticising benefits 'cheats' & 'greedy' pubic sector workers.

                            And so the denial of climate change continues;

                            analysis of media reporting on the heatwave(s) in June concludes that three-quarters failed to mention any link with climate change.

                            Given the scientific consensus is firmly that human actions have caused the accelerated change in the world's environment, the media's denial looks (once again) like the interference of Right wing climate change denying owners in the operations of their media outlets.

                              Authoritarianism begets authoritarianism.
                              In Hungary Tisza are using their supermajority—as well as laws inherited from the rule of their opponents Fidesz—to rid the political scene of Fidesz.
                              Not too different from what Fidesz themselves did before that.
                              (Still, it's not cut and dried, perhaps, as Tisza are promising a new constitution in two or three years.)

                              This reminds me of a detail I seem to recall from one of Ursula Le Guin’s novels (must have been _Planet of Exile_).
                              Colonists who possess weapons that are technologically more advanced than those of the locals should nevertheless restrict their own weapons to the latter's technological level.
                              Otherwise the colonists would be pelted with their own stones, once the locals get hold of the colonists’ weapons.

                              I have no sympathy for Fidesz.
                              There is a different problem here.
                              If one starts resembling one's enemy, one's fight against that enemy starts losing its grounding.

                                        In Clacton there's a political trade-off:

                                        If Count Binface wins, the Fascist Frog will become a laughing stock, likely ending his political career (its difficult to see how he could come back from losing an election to a bin), but, this would mean the investigation into his financial affairs as an MP would effectively be ended - this will only re-start if the Frog wins;
