Looks like the windows are covered with chicken wire! That stuff looks familiar to me because I recently finished making a cat shelter beside my workshop to house two female, feral cats and used that same fencing to keep predators and male cats away....

The cat shelter is open for business! It still needs some work, but the bare minimum is there.

This is the first night the feral momma cat and her female kitten are staying overnight in the shelter.

There are currently 15 cats living with us.... Many are inside the house. We are just about at full capacity! Neither of the two cats shown in this video have yet allowed me to pet them. I hope they will become tame enough for me to take them to the vet to get spayed.

Storing old hardware over many years has been good for my current cat shelter construction project. These bolts were found in my collection.... and I was able to match them to nuts and washers. It looks like I have enough to finish this project, without needing to drive to the store to buy more parts.

Someone occasionally asks if the great mouse waiter is an outdoor cat – when I mention "the compound" I'm referring to a cat fence. So he gets to go outdoors, but he's safely ensconced within a generous area to hang out and has never had any interest in exploring Outer Space.*

Here's a photo from last year where you can see the fence. Black mesh which is heavy-duty deer fence. Once upon a time two dogs and four cats were in residence. The fence was great for everybody.

By the way, your cat appears to be a good companion, and as cats all over the world have determined: a simple, used cardboard box makes a suitable bed. Your cat is doing its part in preventing cardboard from going to the landfill.

(When my cats are done with boxes, I usually burn the cardboard in my wood stove, and the ash is spread out on the ground, with none of it going to the landfill.)

The cat shelter is almost done. I had some set-backs in the construction, like a 24-hour power outage. But the feral momma cat (solid black) and some of her kittens (from two different litters) are getting used to eating in it. I hope to make the door today. (It will be my first time making a door.)
