That love affair was only short lived as it turned out the love was not mutual.

Fediverse instances showed posts that came from Threads accounts, but the other way around, Threads did not show posts from Fediverse accounts.

It became clear that this was not going to change, which made a massive number of #Fediverse instances decide to #defederate #Threads.

Spannende Zahlen vom ZDF: 67 % der Befragten sind offen für alternative soziale Medien. 63 % haben eine Plattform bereits bewusst weniger genutzt oder verlassen.

Und das Fediverse? Das ZDF nennt hier stellvertretend Mastodon: 6 % nutzen es bereits regelmäßig. Bluesky kommt auf 4 %.

Besonders interessant: 38 % kennen Alternativen zu den großen Konzernplattformen schlicht noch nicht. Aber nur 5 % halten sie für zu kompliziert.

Das Problem des Fediverse scheint also weniger die Technik zu sein als seine Bekanntheit.

Dabei bietet es genau die Alternative zur Abhängigkeit von einzelnen Konzernen: dezentral, föderiert und nicht in der Hand eines einzelnen Plattformkonzerns.

Das ZDF und 3sat sind übrigens selbst längst dabei und haben ihre X-Auftritte 2024 zugunsten unter anderem eigener Fediverse-Auftritte aufgegeben.

There’s always that returning question: why is the #fediverse so niche?

We always find technical explanations like "usability" or "social circles".

From my tests with my students, the number one reason is the lack of content about #football.

One of my student was really excited by the prospect of using #peertube. I showed him Sepia Search and the first thing he did was to type "football".

Try it for yourself!

People only need elebrity gossips and football to be able to use the Fediverse.

Identi.ca is the first #fediverse site and the precursor to status.net.

in 2008 i was running my own Identi.ca server; which i used as a bridge between my mobile tech, drupal sites and the early Twitter and Facebook.

so i fediversed waaaaaay before it was cool, as in, almost 20 years ago.

It was far too windy this day to sit on the beach, or even walk along the beach as the sand was blowing probably 2 or 3 feet above the ground. The waves were rolling in, and the ocean as far as you could see was covered with white tips. The sky was a rich blue with a few cumulus clouds which to me seemed unusual for such a windy day. The darker colored strip of sand is the sand that is being blown along the beach in the air above the ground. It would get in your eyes if you were walking. It was even difficult to stand up properly the wind was so strong. THE FINE ART AMERICA LOGO WILL NOT APPEAR ON PURCHASED PRINTS OR PRODUCTS.

But it seems that the idea of linking #OpenStreetMap to discover content near you was something missing here. It was designed to never use a GPS. It warns you when your city is too small and suggests the biggest one around. Topics and language allow you to get tailored content. Saw a headline earlier, “How 10 minutes of drawing can reset your nervous system”

Based solely on my observation without any data to back up my support this headline, sketching/drawing works for me and probably why I keep doing my sketching/drawing on daily basis and as needed. Seems to help with my #anxiety and undiagnosed #ADHD
